Yesterday I ran my 2nd race of the year: Live Grit Lakefront 10 Miler. Â I’ve run this race in 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, and 2015. Â Not sure why I skipped 2013 and 2014. Â In previous years this race took place in March so I was a little surprised to find out CARA moved it to March.
This race is on the list of races to run for get guaranteed entry to the Chicago Marathon as part of the CARA Marathon Incentive Program. Â I already have an entry for this year but why not get started for next year right?
I love a hassle free packet pickup. Â It took me 10 seconds to get my bib at Live Grit. Â I stayed just a little bit longer to check out the Oiselle gear. Â Everything was marked down (about 50% off). Sadly, I did not buy anything.
I love the shirt. Â I rarely keep my shirts but for sure this one I will keep. Â Great color right?
I met Emily for dinner. Â It was last minute and it was great catching up with her. Â I had way too much sushi but it was DELICIOUS.
It was cold on race day. Â I wanted to wear shorts but changed my mind when I saw the weather report. Â Plus, it does tend to get windy along the lakefront. Â I wore two long sleeve shirts and was still cold. Â I left my house at 6:30am and was at the race location by 7. Â I had to wait 2 hours but it was worth it because I found a parking spot next to the finish line, used the bathroom various time, and met the lovely Dani.
I had no time goal for this race. Â My only goal was to have fun. Â I did wear my watch but switched it to the current time screen instead of current pace/average pace/distance screen. I only switched the screen maybe once or twice but that’s it. Â I ran by feel. Â I ran and walked whenever I felt like it. Â I actually enjoyed this race. Â It felt so good to feel the sun on my back.
Ridiculous hill we had to run between miles 2-3 and then on the way back between miles 9-10. Seriously WHY?!?!?!
The miles went by quickly. Â I did have some pain on my right knee and quad and on my left hip. Â I did not have this pain during my last race so I will be foam rolling a whole lot more.
After the race, I got a slice of pizza and went to get my beer when I met another lovely runner, Lisa. Â We’ve communicated via Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram but have never met. Â We talked for a little bit but then she had to leave. Â I got my beer but I did not finish it because I was too cold and instead grabbed another slice of pizza. Â I was so hungry and the pizza was delicious.
Another medal to add to the collection.
Next race is Bank of America Shamrock Shuffle 8k on April 3rd.
Like or dislike 10 mile races?
I was thinking about how cold it was for that race this year! Glad you enjoyed yourself and met up with Dani and Lisa. OMG why twice on that dang hill this year?
I know right? I did not know we would have to go through it twice! I did curse and laugh a little because well what else could I do? 🙂
I’m so sad I missed it this year. But on second thought, I’m glad since they made you do Cricket Hill twice? Why? Why?
Yep! Dang hill. I did curse a little the second time around and it felt so much harder.
Glad you had such a fun time! It was really nice when the sun came out during the race. Yes, I don’t know why we ran Cricket hill twice. It was okay at mile 2, but bad news at mile 9! 🙂
I agree! I cursed when I saw I had to run it again. I did not check the course map because I figured it would be the same as last year. Oh well. Done with it.
It was so great to see you on Friday! I am thrilled you had a good time at the 10-Miler but curses on having to run Cricket Hill twice. Way to push through! I hope the pain on your right knee and quad and on your left hip all go away soon!
Well you know that if it isn’t one thing then it is something else right? The problem is my IT band. Ouch!
Yay for a fun race!!! 🙂 I love the orange top, too – that is definitely something I’d keep!
Yep, definitely a fun color. 🙂
That sounds like an awesome race, and I agree that both the shirt and the medal are awesome! The 10-mile distance is actually my favorite, but there aren’t too many of them. Glad to see you had so much fun and are kicking off the year with racing!
Thanks Elizabeth! I am hoping that I get to enjoy more of my races this year.
