It is hard to believe that we are close to the end of October and November starts next week. Β Also, hard to believe Thanksgiving is right around the corner. Β Oh, and my birthday is that same week as Thanksgiving. Β π
I am excited because that same week of Thanksgiving, I only work Monday and Tuesday and then I am off the rest of the week. Β Thanksgiving is always a time to eat all of the food and spend time with family. Β It is also time to run in a turkey trot. Β This year I am looking forward to run the Art Van Turkey Trot in Chicago. Β I haven’t decided on whether to run the 5K or 8K. Β It’s been years since I’ve run in a turkey trot. Β Read along as I list the reasons why I am excited to run this race and why you should too.
1. This race supports the Greater Chicago Food Depository. Β What better way to start off the day than to help out fellow Chicago friends to ensure they don’t go hungry this holiday season.
2. It is a local race. Β That saves me time and money. Β I sleep in my own bed and drive to the race. Β I’ve never run this race before and am looking forward to runing in Lincoln Park.
3. FREE Race Photos.Β I never buy any of my race photos (too expensive and don’t like how I look) but I’ve noticed that I do like the FREE ones. Regardless, whether I like them or not, they’re still FREE.
4. It is a short race.Β There are two options in this race, 5K and am 8K. Β Whether it is 3.1 or 6.2 miles, those distances are still doable. Β Right?
5. A cool shirt and medal! Β New this year is that everyone that crosses the finish line gets a medal. Β Β Check out that cool blue color of the shirts! Β Love it!
EXTRA:
6. I get to wear some cool socks! Β I purchased these socks at the Shamrock Shuffle expo specifically to run a turkey trot. Β I am excited to wear them on race day.
Remember,Β if you would like to sign up, use TURKEYDAY2017Β to save 10% off any race distance.
Any plans to run a Turkey Trot this year?
Iβm linking up withΒ Running on HappyΒ andΒ Fairytales and FitnessΒ for Friday 2.0.
Looks fun! But why did they have to go and name it the Art Van Turkey Trot? Ayyyyy
I’m not sure if I’m going to do one yet. One race at a time…
I admit the name is weird. I just call it Turkey Trot Chicago. π
That’s great they offer a free race photo! I agree, they are always so expensive and that’s why I don’t buy them either. Cute socks! Now you have a reason to run it.
Exactly!
Turkey trots are always fun and you cannot beat free race photos!
I am excited about it too!
This looks like such a fun race! I wish that we had a really good Turkey Trot in my town but we basically just have a “fun run” untimed 5K on Thanksgiving day, lol
Oh bummer! Your town needs to get the ball rolling and have a turkey trot. Every town should have one, right?
I’m all about free race photos! I’d actually rather have that than a medal!
Hmm, I want both! π
I’ll be at my parents’ house for Thanksgiving, and that area doesn’t have a turkey trot. I’m OK with that actually. I’m doing the RnR Vegas 10k, and that’s on the 12th. I’ll be taking a break from cardio, and I’m looking forwarding to relaxing that day.
I am jealous you are running RnR Las Vegas. I ran that race a few years ago and have been wanting to do it again. I keep saying next year but one year it will happen.
I am hoping this year to finally do my first turkey trot! This race looks great – I love the T-shirt and free photos! Sounds like fun!
How fun!
I think turkey trots are great! A friend and myself have organized a small trot in our town, this will be the 6th year. It’s a free event, but we encourage participants to bring food donations (which are then taken to our local food pantry. We offer 1-mile, 2-mile, and 5K options, and walkers, strollers, and dogs are all welcome π
This is wonderful, Kim! I cannot imagine the planning and work involved in coordinating a turkey trot.
I’m super pumped for Thanksgiving this year because we are hosting. I always do a turkey trot but I’m going to have to stay close since I have to get home to the bird. That is a great race shirt and yay for a medal. It’s amazing how the pendulum has swung to medals for pretty much all races these days.
How fun that you will be hosting! I agree about the medals. I remember before how there was no such thing of getting a medal for a 5k.
