Does it finally feel like Spring where you live? Mother Nature is definitely cruel. While we had some nice weather this week, Chicago got more snow on Saturday. I was out of town but still couldn’t believe it.
On Thursday we went to the zoo. Originally we wanted to go on Friday but there weren’t district busses available to take us to the zoo. It was great on Thursday. The weather was perfect and it wasn’t crowded.
I was EXHAUSTED by the time we got back to school. We didn’t walk a lot but still. One of my students told me that it was the best day ever! 🙂 It was so sad to see the polar bears. One of them was trying to sit but couldn’t. Walking was another story. The bear could hardly walk and it was sad. ☹️😞 My coworker sent me this article. I think it was the bear we saw. No pictures other than the bear and the gorillas. Not sure why I didn’t take more pictures.
My best workout this week was on Wednesday. It was 1.5 miles warm up, 5×2 minutes intervals with 2 minutes recovery, and 1.5 miles cool down for a total of 4.64 miles.
I got some new socks. How is it that new socks make me happy?
As of Friday, we have 25 days left till summer break. I am excited! However, I will have one week off before I start summer school. I am looking forward to it too. The hours are great and my last day will be July 6th.
On Saturday I flew to Philadelphia and then took a shuttle to Wilmington, DE for the Delaware Half Marathon. How is it that one can pack so much for a one day trip?
Once at the hotel, I picked up my bib and went to get something to eat. The restaurant I went to was about 5 minutes from my hotel. I had a chicken wrap with fries and a beer flight.
My coach asked me to do a 20 minute shakeout run. That didn’t happen. I was too tired from the trip and the food made me sleepy. After my nap I met Kim for dinner.
Time to run 13.1 miles! I will have my race recap on Tuesday.
Linking up with Kim and Deborah for the Weekly Run Down.
Oh, it’s pretty amazing the stuff I pack to take for a race. 🙂 And I use it all!
Rachel always wanted me to do a shakeout run. I’ve tried them, but not a fan. So I didn’t.
Definitely curious to read your review — I want to get DE done within the next year, and this one and Rehoboth beach — I’m having trouble deciding!
I’ve heard great things about Rehoboth. I liked this course (very pretty), but there are lots of hills. If I were to do this again, I would definitely train on hills.
Good to know!
I love and hate the zoo. It’s great to see animals up close and personal, but I hate that they are captive. What was wrong with the polar bear?
You know I’m obsessed with socks! I finally cleaned out my sock drawer today. I didn’t want to get rid of any of my socks.
Congrats on your race!
I don’t know what was wrong with him but you could see he was struggling. My coworker took a video and that wa painful to see. I do know he got a CT scan (assuming it is the same bear).
Hey, can’t go wrong with SmartWool socks, and one can never have too many 😉 I look forward to hearing how it went for you and Kim !! Thanks for linking 😉
I do love my SmartWool socks!
I wear those socks all year so I definitely need plenty on hand. 😜
Aww on your students’ endorsement
Poor bear. Bear MOuntain Zoo has one here which always makes me sad. It’s like he’s breathing but is he really alive?
Your meal looks delicious, can’t wait to hear about your race. Yay runner meetups
I have been going to the zoo every year for the past 9 years. I have never seen anything like that bear.
Those school field trips were always so exhausting! How fun that you got to meet up w Kim! Congrats on your race I hear it’s a great venue. Thanks for linking up
Thank you. I had a great time with Kim and her mom. They’re both great!
Oh, those poor polar bears! They are in so much trouble in the wild too. I hope you liked the Wilmington half. I always love running in Wilmington. If we would not have been out in Colorado this week visiting my son and his family, I may have registered. I really like the course.
It was sad to see the bears like that. I did like the race. The course was pretty. What I did not like was the hills. My poor legs. I was sore and exhausted.
Yes, Wilmington definitely has some hills…
I love trips to the zoo! That’s so sad about the polar bear though 🙁
It was great to see you this weekend. Hope we can link up again in Detroit in October.
Yes, it was so much fun!
Zoos make me so sad. It’s cool to see the animals but I just want them to be out in the wild doing their thing. New socks always make me happy but I cringe at paying $20 for one pair. Why?!?!?
I agree. Not sure if I would want to go again next year. I rarely buy socks at full price. But even with a discount or on sale, they are still expensive.
So glad you met up with Kim! That photo of you two is lovely! You guys could actually make it your signature photo for the “Tuesday Topics” link-up! Can’t wait to read about the Half Marathon!
Aww, thanks for the kind words. ❤️
unfortunately I can’t read the article you linked about the polar bear but I feel sad for him just from what you’ve written 🙁
i totally love socks. I have way way way too many ProCompression socks for example. I want to buy all the toe socks since my wonky toe hurts way less with them. of course the ones I like cost a gajillion euros.
how FUN you got to meet up with Kim!!! She’s the coolest, right???
I wonder if the article is only for local people? I just clicked on the link and was able to read it.
I had lots of socks too and have 16 away. Haha, yes too many. I love the Smartwool socks and want to get as many patterns as I can get.
Yes, Kim is awesome! I am glad I got a chance to meet up with her.
I pack so much for a race! I don’t understand the concept of packing light haha.
I love zoos! It’s been forever since I’ve been to one, but I’m a HUGE animal fan! I should go again sometime.
When I went to Minnesota, I met this girl who had her stuff in a backpack. I have been wanting to do that with no luck.
That sucks to have snow so late in the year! Glad you were out of town and missed it 🙂 I hope the race went well!
Thanks! The race went OK. Fun but hilly and tough course.
Now wait a minute…. aren’t those full size beers in that flight?? Not the half size testers? Wow! Hope your race was awesome! I raced on Sunday too. It was beautiful here in Ohio!
They were 6 ounces. I finished all except 1 because I did not like it.
I hope you had a great race!
