EDITED:Β  The original title was “Tuesday Topics: To cheat or not to cheat – My favorite cheat meals”.Β  I changed it to indulgences because I don’t want to classify any food as “good” or “bad”.Β Β

My mother loves to cook.Β  She enjoys cooking for her family but rarely eats any of it.Β  She likes to see other people enjoy eating the food she makes.Β  Every year on her birthday she makes mole and invites people over to eat and celebrate.Β  No one says no (unless they’re out of town).Β  Her birthday is in September and last year she made 2 different kinds of mole and tamales.Β  Yummy!

As you can see, I am all about the food!!Β  Haha, no wonder I cannot seem to lose weight.Β  πŸ™‚

While I enjoy my mother’s home cooked meals, I also like other foods.Β Β

* Cheeseburger and fries from Portillo’s.Β  Let’s not forget the chocolate cake.Β Β

* Pizza.Β  I am a big fan of it and could eat it every day.Β  There is a place on the corner from where I work and my coworker and I sometimes order pizza and cheese fries.

* Tacos!Β  Steak tacos for me.Β Β

* Wine and beer.Β  I know they’re not meals but I enjoy them (not together) after a long or hectic day at school.

  1. If I loved with your mom, I would probably weigh 500 lbs. I don’t know if I have one cheat meal – maybe pizza. I like to eat pizza the night before a race. It’s filling, has carbs, and tastes so good with maybe 1 beer!

    • My mother lives in Chicago for 6 months and the other 6 months in Mexico so we don’t always have her food. πŸ™‚

Pizza and beer before a race does sound yummy!

  2. I try not to consider food as “good” or “bad” for the most part, although you’d probably never realize that from my blog — but it’s true! I prefer to think of it more as indulging in some fun foods. πŸ™‚

I’m with Cari on the sushi! But seriously, there isn’t a whole lot I don’t like. Sugar is also my drug of choice — I do have to be careful with that. Love pizza but only on occasion these days (often when running or racing long). Actually I prefer stromboli because it’s all about the dough!

    • You make a good point about the “good” or “bad” food. It is also all about moderation.

Stromboli looks yummy. I don’t think I’ve ever had it but now I do want some.

      • Well, think sort of Chicago Pizza but in a roll. That’s not exactly it, but it’s close. I’m not really a huge fan of tomato sauce (except on pasta) — stromboli comes with tomato sauce on the side, but I tell them not to bring it. Just dough, cheese and some veggies (or meat if that’s your thing). Not only that, it’s portion control — no pizza leftovers to be eaten!

The only problem is my husband doesn’t like pizza from the places I like strombolis, and the places he likes for pizza typically don’t have strombolis. #firstworldproblems

  3. See, I would totally count tacos as healthy. And wine is pretty much a fruit, so that’s kind of a meal. I also try not to give food power in the good or bad category, but I will throw down with an ice cream sundae when I know I’ve worked my butt out and crushed my run or workout.

  4. I much prefer to call them “indulgences” as opposed to “cheat meals” LOL Although I don’t eat lean and green all the time, I do like to have an extra dose of sugar now and then. Of course, I love thick crust pizza and anything with cheese. Did I mention cheesecake? Brownies? I could go on….

    • You also bring up a good point about calling them “indulgences” as opposed to “cheat meals”. I didn’t mean to give anyone the wrong idea and say that food or specific foods are good or bad. Oh dear.

  5. I can’t really think of a cheat meal because like most everyone else I prefer to think of it as indulgences. Maybe a burger and fries when I had a long run. I love pizza but eat it way too much to consider it cheating. Hehehe

  6. I’ve had to give up All THE Food because of RA but I can’t give up wine and beer. Those are my cheats.

    • I understand. Many people have commented the same thing about that term. I didn’t mean for it to be a bad thing as I don’t really want foods to be considered “good” or “bad”. It is all about moderation.

  7. I guess a cheat meal would be considered lasagna with a lot of cheese? If so, then it’s that! Pizza is a regular part of my diet. Thursday night is “beer and pizza” night with my husband. It’s our “date at home” night where we have a pizza and watch our favorite TV shows after the kids go to bed. We try to never miss it!
