Weekly Mileage-19.jpg

I don’t know what is going on but this week I had no motivation to run.  I also felt more tired than usual.  I ran 2 days this week (my coach has me running 5 days a week).  I have been massaging my left foot every single day.  It only hurts a little when I get up in the morning but then it feels fine.

Even Lola felt tired too.  🙂

I decided not to run the three half marathons (WY, SD, and ND) next month.  No way will I be ready.  The race in New Mexico is still up in the air because my mother’s birthday is September 9th and we have a birthday party for her.  Her party will not be the 7th so most likely it will be the 14th.

We are still dealing with some issues with my mother’s medical card.  I am so frustrated.  She has County Care which is a managed care organization through Medicaid.   I don’t understand why her coverage changed and why she doesn’t have medical coverage.  County Care only offers long term care.  She was assigned a PCP located downtown and I tried switching her to her current one but couldn’t do it because she has Medicare and that covers her medical  doctor appointments.  At this point, why would she switch her PCP?  Ugh!  Rant over..for now.  Thanks for listening.

On Tuesday I went to see “The Lion King”.  Have you seen it?  I loved it!  I want to see it again, and again, and again.

I may have been banned from ordering from the Brooks website, but that didn’t stop me from ordering these from Zappos.  These are the Ghost 12.  Aren’t they lovely?  I have the Ghost 11 and love them.

I ordered some new Oiselle gear.  I love the new colors.

The new tops have a watch window.  Not sure If I like it but we’ll see once I start wearing them.

I emailed my coach and she suggested I take some time off from structured running but definitely go for a run if I feel like it.  She also said not to put any pressure/expectations on me nor worry about pace.  Maybe now the new shoes and gear will motivate me to go out for a run.  🙂

How do you stay motivated?  Is it new shoes?  New gear?  Or simply take some time off?

33 Comments on Weekly Run Down: Not motivated to run and some new running gear

  1. Maybe the motivation will return when your foot is feeling 100% better (?). I know when my PF was flaring, the thought of making it worse was a pretty good motivator NOT to run LOL Hope it continues to feel better each week!

  2. Oh, wow, I hadn’t heard of watch windows before, but I definitely think that’s a great idea for winter gear! I think not wanting to run can be a sign that you need a break – but you did get that 8+ miler in. So sorry about your mom’s healthcare woes. Red-tape like this is so frustrating.

    • Looks like they’re the new style in long sleeve tops. For now i am going to run whenever I want to and not because I “have” to. We’ll see what happens. This isn’t the first time it happens so I know it will pass. Thank you.

  3. I like your coach’s recommendations. You’re still dealing with a lot; I would be that’s what’s going on (and the heat doesn’t help much).

I am sorry about the halfs, though. I hope that you won’t lose a lot of $$ on that.

Skirt Sports has a top with a watch window. I actually do like it. I’m not sure what I’m going to do now in the winter, since I’m playing a bit with HR — normally I put my watch over my coat & obviously that won’t work.

I do hope you feel better and find your mojo — and can straighten out what’s going on with your coverage. All things drs are just beyond frustrating.

  4. I’m really sorry to hear about the ongoing issues with your mom’s insurance. I cannot imagine how frustrating that can be. I wish our healthcare system was easier to navigate.

I really like your new sneakers and new running clothes that you purchased – super cute!

    • I never have problems with my insurance (I have BlueCross BlueShield) so I just assumed it would be the same with my mom’s. It was a wake up call when my mom came home and we’ve had to deal with these issues. I just know while the healthcare system can be good, it also sucks (especially for older people)!

  5. I’m so sorry about all the Medcare/County Care mumbo jumbo. That’s absolutely the last thing you need to be dealing with right now. Thank heavens you’re there for your mom though. I like the idea of a watch window. Typically I wear my watch over long sleeves but then I can’t push them up easily if I get hot.

    • I don’t like being an adult anymore. 🙂

That is the reason I wear my watch under the long sleeve. Sometimes I wear this top under another top so I will have the same issue. 🙂 I love the tops and colors so that is what matters the most.

  6. Hopefully with a little break you will get your motivation back! Usually some time off helps me. But it really depends. Its better not to push it if you’re not feeling it! I haven’t bought new running gear in awhile and now I’m itching to get something.

  7. Some weeks are just like that. Maybe just going for a walk to get the miles in instead of running.

    New clothes can also help!

    Good luck.

I hope that things get better in all areas.

  8. Both my cats say “hi” to Lola.
I am sure that after a short break or a slown down your motivation will come back.
Brooks are my favorite running shoes.

  9. Hey Zenaida, do you think maybe all the stress from your mom’s situation is also maybe zapping your energy? Sometimes we just need a break you know? and maybe not so much from running itself but from life stuff, schedules, that sort of thing. So I think it’s good your coach said to take time off if you need it but then run if you felt like it. I do think the new kicks will help 🙂 and the gear from Oiselle 🙂 I have quite a few tops with a watch window – surprised that wasn’t already a “thing” there! Usually we get the trends after you guys! Sorry to hear about your halfs that you need to step back from. That’s a bummer. What race was it you were going to do in NM? I’ve done two races in NM actually! My parents (both sets) live in ABQ so I did a trail up in Los Alamos once and a Turkey Trot.

hope you get your motivation back this week! how cool about the peloton!

    • Being an adult is hard and I don’t like it anymore. 🙂 I don’t know how new the watch window is but I first heard about it this winter? I bought a different Oiselle top but didn’t care too much for it so I sold it to someone else. I know other people have said good things about it. I was planning to run the Santa Fe Thunder on the 15th.

  10. Sorry to hear about the frustration with your nother’s medical card 🙁 That sounds horrible to deal with and I can see why that could contribute to your exhaustion and the lack of motivation to run! When I’m struggling with motivation, I try to shake things up and maybe try a new location or make a date with a friend to run together or a new audio book. And sometimes I just need the time off from running and that’s a good thing too!

  11. I’m sorry to hear about your foot pain. Maybe the rest will help with recovery? I just got the 11’s this year and now I guess I need to see how the 12’s look, lol! I could definitely use a prettier color!

Usually it’s being on a training plan that keeps me motivated, so when I’m not training (like now), I need as much accountability as possible to get out there!

  12. I think the combo of feeling unmotivated and more tired than usual is usually a sign to slow down for a bit! I usually put my watch over long sleeves, but I think I might like a watch window too.

  13. I love the watch window – so cool. Did you ever find out why you can’t order from Brooks? So weird they’d rather lose a sale to a 3rd party.
Good luck re-finding your mojo and with your mom’s health care. So frustrating

    • Thanks! Well, apparently I bought too much and returned too much. 🙂 The problem wasn’t so much the used merchandise but the fact that I bought shoes, never wore them, and then sent them back. I sent them back because I had so many and I wasn’t wearing them (at least someone else got to buy them, right?). Why did I buy so many in the first place? Well, they were on sale and I liked the shoes. Sigh. I was so embarrassed when I got the email. I think that is what hurt me the most.

  14. Oh my goodness, I hear you on feeling off all week. That was me this past week for sure! Here’s to us both getting back on track and for your left foot to feel back to normal!

    Have a great week!

Thank you for your comment!
