Thanks to everyone for their comments from my post on Sunday regarding my fall.Β  I am not done reading everyone’s post/comment.Β  The bruise is slowly going away and my face looks so much better.Β  πŸ™‚

Tuesday Topics-26.jpg

This week’s Tuesday Topic:Β  What’s your plan to achieve your 2020 goals?Β  You can write about this topic or feel free to post any running related blog post.Β  Remember to Link-up withΒ KimΒ andΒ Zenaida!Β  Visit at least two of the other linked posts – the more the merrier!Β Β Remember to come back for later linkers!

I wrote about my goals in December.Β  Here is the post.Β  I didn’t count them when I wrote my post but yesterday I counted them and I have 10 goals for this year.Β  Maybe it is too many and maybe it isn’t.Β  πŸ™‚Β  Read along to find out how I planning on achieving my goals this year.

1. Be injury free.Β  Please go away plantar fasciitis.
Last year I got a taste of plantar fasciitis.Β  I didn’t know that’s what it was (although I did suspect it and my doctor confirmed it) and it is one of the most painful injuries I’ve ever had.Β  As of now, I want to say that it is gone.Β  I did a lot of stretching, used my massage gun, wore a sleeve at night, and wore gym shoes with inserts during the day and while out running.Β  I am also obsessed with my Oofos.Β  I wear them every single day.Β  Of course, I could get a different injury.Β  Injuries like to follow runners.Β  This year I plan to get stronger by taking up swimming, strength training, and/or cycling.Β  I already have a Peloton so now I need to look into the other two.

2. PR in the following distances: 5k, 4 miles, 8k, 10k, 10 miles, and 13.1.
This might be a tricky one.Β  Last year I signed up with a new coach and was determined to make it work and stick to my workouts.Β  I didn’t expect to get sick and to fall this year.Β  I am not sure when I will run again.Β  My PRs are so many years old and now am wondering if it is even possible.Β  Maybe I should stick to the shorter distances?

3. Get a sub 2 half marathon.
I’ve been wanting to do this for a number of years.Β  My last couple of half marathons have been done just for fun and to run in a new state.Β  I have a few I will be running this year but haven’t decided which one to make my sub 2 half marathon.

4. Run a marathon.Β  I am hoping either the MCM in October or the NYC in November.
This one depends on the lottery.Β  I entered the early lottery for NYC but didn’t get selected.Β  My entry was automatically entered into the regular lottery.Β  The lottery registration for the MCM is in March.Β  We’ll see what happens.

5. Buy a house.Β Β
I have to figure out exactly what kind of house I want.Β  I’ve been looking for over 2 years.Β  Isn’t that long enough?Β  Honestly, I am tired of waiting and looking.Β  I saw the perfect house last year but by the time I was ready to make an offer, the owners had accepted an offer from someone else.Β  Again, things happen for a reason so the question now is why didn’t I get that house?

6. Travel to Mexico.Β  It’s been years since I’ve been there and really hope I can make it next year.
I can cross this off my list.Β  I bought my mother’s and my ticket on Saturday.Β  We will be going in March/April for Spring Break.Β  I told my sister and niece that I want to go to 3 places: Xochimilco, the pyramids in Teotihuacan, and to the Frida Kahlo Museum.Β  Cannot wait!

7. Run a couple more half marathons in new states.Β  I am registered for GA and KS but still need HI, NM, ID, ND, SD, SC, and WY.Β Β
Only 9 more states to go.Β  I have an idea of the ones I want to run in NM, ID, ND, SD, SC, and WY, but need to check out logistics (airfare and hotel) before I sign up.Β  Anyone want to join me?Β  Also, not sure about GA since it is at the end of February and I don’t know if I will be ready for it.

8. Be more patience at work and at home.Β Β
So far I am doing OK with this one.Β  I’ve been more calm at work and at home.Β  I’ve been paying more attention to my students because many times that is just what they want.Β  I need to remember that my students are little kids.Β  Many look forward to coming to school and will do anything for attention and to please me.Β  I’m also working on being more patient with my mother.Β  She is older and needs a lot of care and attention.Β  She isn’t patient either and tends to get angry because now there are many things she cannot do by herself and she does not like that.

9. Do more fun things with friends.Β  I realized that I always use the same excuse β€œI am too tired” with them and don’t do enough fun things with them.
I am at loss with this one.Β  Not sure how to tackle this one because honestly I am tired at the end of the day.Β  πŸ™‚Β  I guess I can make plans with them for either one day every other weekend or during the week.

10. Find joy in everything that is possible.Β  Life is short to not find joy in it.Β
So far this is going well too.Β  I started off the year with a cold and stayed home for 3 days.Β  However, I watched TV, slept and took some much needed rest.Β  As for my fall, well, nothing fun about that but I am glad it wasn’t worse and that I didn’t break anything.Β  I know this sounds cheesy but in the morning I tell myself that it is going to be a good day.Β  πŸ™‚

  1. Wow, so many good goals! I think you could combine a part of no. 2 with no. 3: getting a sub 2 hour halfmarathon would be a PR, wouldn’t it? Go for it, girl!
I like your travel plans to Mexico. I’m sure your Mum will love being on tour with you. I also have to be more patient with my parents – they’re coming to visit us in Cape Town. So let’s see how that goes patience-wise! πŸ˜‰

  2. I don’t think there’s anything cheesy about telling yourself it’s going to be a good day — I think it’s powerful.

My brother is going to Mexico City with his family (even though two of his kids are grown and on their own) — in a couple of days.

I don’t think I would ever be able to get a 2 hour half, much less a sub 2 — and it’s not really a goal that motivates me — which doesn’t matter, it motivates you!

Beating PF is a huge win! Good luck on all your goals this year, Zenaida.

    • I hope they have a great time! I haven’t been there in years and am excited to go. I don’t know where I got that sub 2 goal. Maybe the pressure from social media? Darn it!

      • LOL about social media. I just know I’m so, so far away from sub 2 — or even 2 — I’m sure I could probably do it if it really motivated me, but I don’t want to work that hard (or injure myself trying).

I’m sure they will enjoy it, although my Dad has taken a turn for the worse (I share a bit more about that tomorrow), so it was a difficult decision for my brother.

We all urged him to go; it’s a short trip, he’ll be back Monday. I just keep him updated every day but so far there’s really no change, and even if there was, he lives on the West Coast, so still probably couldn’t be here.

  3. I love your PR goals! Have you run a marathon before or this would be your first one? And how great that tickets to Mexico have already been sorted! Best of luck with all your goals – you’ve got this! PS: So glad bruise is going away. It looked so painful.

  4. I love your PR goals. That’s great that you have enough 8Ks to try for one. It’s one distance I think I’ve never run.
If you run NYC, would love to meet up

  5. It’s not cheesy to tell yourself to have a good day…a positive attitude does everyone good (you and those around you). Good luck with the 26.2 lotteries…what if you get in both? πŸ™‚

  6. You have some great goals for this year! How exciting that you booked a trip to Mexico. Hopefully as you recover from your fall and starting running again you can figure out your plan for some of your racing goals.

    • Thanks for your support. I am excited to race again and set some new PRs. It’s been years since I’ve been to Mexico (I did go to Cancun for a wedding but that doesn’t count) so I am also excited for that trip.

  7. Wow! You have some really big goals. I hope you get into either MCM or NYC. I did MCM last year and the year before, and it was awesome. So inspiring. And I hope you get to Mexico too!

    • Excited about this year! Now it is time to do the work. Well, once I start running again. I hope I can run either marathon. I am excited for it now so hopefully that excitement carries on.

  8. That’s great news that you’ve bought tickets to Mexico already! Sounds like a fun trip. I’m not sure this will work for you, but here’s one thing that’s been helping me get out to see friends. Instead of trying to go right after work, when I’m tired, I’ve been trying to meet up with people once per week a bit later (7 or 8). This gives me time to go home, feed the cats, and get in a short nap. The nap helps me feel less tired and ready to go out and see people πŸ™‚

    • Yes that does work for me too. I’m known for taking a nap before going out. πŸ™‚ It depends on how I feel. Sometimes a nap makes me feel even more tired and then I just want to stay home. I am weird. I blame it on age.

  9. These are great goals and I know you’re going to have a great year.

I know that I am often too tired to go out with friends, but I always feel great about going once I’m out. It’s just doing it.

It’s infuriating how much PF can derail a runner. I hope you get some relief soon!

    • Thanks!!! Here’s to 2020 being a great year for us. I also feel great when I go out with friends. It is getting out the door that is sometimes hard. Well, kind of like running, right?

Thank you for your comment!
