I have been home since Monday. I spent most of Monday and Tuesday preparing lessons for my students using Google Classroom. I prepared 8 days of lessons. “Last” day of school is March 27 and then we are off for Spring Break. At the moment we are scheduled to go back on April 6th but that can change. In some states schools are closed for the rest of the school year. Also, CPS will be closed till the 20th. My district will most likely follow CPS’s plan but so far haven’t heard anything about it.
What I am not liking about this is that my students have not done the work nor turned it in. On Friday I gave them all a folder full of worksheets. I also told them to go to Google Classroom because I would be leaving additional work there. One week has gone by and only 5 students have logged in. Maybe 2 or 3 have turned in the work. I am trying to be understanding and patient. Maybe they’re all working on their worksheets? Who knows?
The two weeks after my half marathon in Atlanta, I did not run at all. First, I was recovering from said race. I felt better by Thursday but still did not want to run. Then I was just tired and wanted to sleep. Before I knew it 2 weeks had gone by and I told myself to snap out of it. I did and ran on Monday. Not too long but a little over 2 miles. My pace was slow but I did not care. I ran again the rest of the week except on Tuesday. My goal was to run each day longer than the day before. I did it!
I ran by the area where I fell in January. Well, I walked.
It was gloomy most of the week and I got tired of it. I think one day it was cold but not windy. I wore an insulated jacket and ended up being too warm. It is now my favorite jacket for running on cold days.
Being home all day I saw just what my cats do all day. They sleep all day.
Lola prefers to hang out with me than Mateo.
This is my favorite one. They were both waiting for me after my run yesterday. OK, enough cat photos for today. 🙂
I had planned to run 3 races from March-May and they were all cancelled. Right now the race I have in my calendar is in July. So for now I will continue to run. Since now I have more time, I am thinking of using again the Hansons Training Method. I already printed out a 16 weeks schedule. I know it is an intense plan. Will I run 6 days a week? Maybe. Maybe not. I might just run 3, 4, or 5 days depending on how I feel. Right now I need a plan so I can keep on running. I know there are other plans I can use, but I’ve used this one before and like it.
So what else did I do this past week? My mother was here this week so I spent some time with her. I made the mistake of watching “Outbreak” and “2012”. HUGE mistake. 🙂 I have a TiVo in my room and have been catching up on a few shows such as Chicago PD, Bull, and Hawaii Five-O. Quite a few episodes were from September! I have yet to finish Hawaii Five-O, Young Sheldon, and NCIS. Yep, will be busy for the next couple of weeks!
How are YOU? How was your week?
Linking up with Kim and Deborah for the Weekly Run Down.
Wow – that is frustrating about the school work not being done! I wondered how the teaching side of the online school was going. Most of my kid’s teachers have a pretty good handle on distance learning, but you can definitely tell who is just learning!
One of the problems I am encountering is that I don’t have phone numbers for all parents. I’ve learned that I need to make sure I have all numbers at the beginning of the year. Also, I need to get my students working early in the year in Google Classroom. Many students and parents do not know how to use it.
When I taught, I absolutely loved Google Classroom! Such a wonderful organizational tool! The kids around here are off school until the end of March. for now. We don’t have a spring break, just Good Friday off at Easter, but I can’t imagine they will be going back to school the beginning of April. We will just have to see.
Glad to see you are getting back to running again!
With Google Classroom I am using is a lot more and am loving it. Students and parents are struggling with it hence the lack of work being turned in. You bet then from now on I will make sure they know how to use it.
OMG WHY WOULD YOU WATCH OUTBREAK?????? NOOOO!!!!
I appreciate everything our nation’s teachers are doing, but I’m just really not sure how it’s going to work. Our teachers are figuring out a plan this week, but I don’t see how the lessons will be equitable or enforceable. A will absolutely be following along and doing the assigned work, but we have a computer for him, internet, and I’m home to monitor. Not everyone will be in the same position. I will be zero help for math. That I know. 🙁
It’s a mess, no two ways about it. We all just have to do what we can and hope for the best. Hang in there.
It was one of those days when I just wanted to watch it. Definitely not a good choice of movie to watch. We are all learning more and more about this eLearning. I know it isn’t the same as being in the classroom but I think many schools (I hope) will now have a plan in place for when we need days like that again. I know I have!
I am sure it will be a huge adjustment for the teachers and the students but everyone will be ok. Glad to see you are back to running. It’s a great stress reliever. Have a good week and stay well
Thank you! It has also been a learning process as well. I now know what I will do different for the next school year. I am even so when we go back to school.
That would be a really frustrating situation with the students not doing their work, or even logging in to check on assignments. So sorry for all your headaches. That said, it’s great to see you’re back out running 😉
At this point I am not going to worry about it anymore. I did the work but now it is up to the students and the parents.
What a great goal of running each day a little longer than the day before! And you did it! Well done.
The only not-cancelled race is in July as well. I really hope that will stay because it’s one of my favourites.
Thanks. Just needed that motivation to keep running. I do hope that by this summer we will be allowed to race.
There will never be enough cat photos, keep them coming! Congrats on getting back to running.
Thank you. And I will post more because you asked for them. 🐈
Do you have the ability to communicate with parents? We get these sort-of group texts from my child’s teacher (or an email could work) …..and, at times, that is the only way I know that there is something going on at school.
I started using Remind. Sort of like that you use with tour child’s teacher. Maybe it is the same one? The problem is that I don’t have everyone cell numbers for everyone. You bet from now on I will make sure I have everyone’s number.
Being a teacher can be frustrating.
Kudos to you on your consistent running.
I’m stuck at home. Not so bad when yuh can run or walk. But today it snowed. Depressed.
Thanks! Sending hugs to you.
the weather has at least improved…going for 2 walks today!!
Enjoy! I ran 4 miles this morning. Felt good to get out there.
I know. Tomorrow for me.
LOL we watched Outbreak (which we seen a bunch of times) & World War Z as well. 🙂 Didn’t bother me. Usually I’m careful about what I let into my psyche but somehow I was “let’s watch all the virus movies!”
Good job getting out there!
My niece is a teacher. Probably about the same age as your kids, maybe a bit younger. She went home to CA & is teaching from there.I facetimed with her yesterday, on her birthday, and she said they’re giving teachers a lot of busywork. Still, I know my brother & SIL are very happy that almost their whole family is together. I’ve got to call my sister . . .
Your’e lucky that you got to spend time with your mom! I seriously don’t know when I’ll see mine again, I think not for another month at least.
I wonder what kind of work they were given? I mean there is so much one can do in eLearning. I hope you get to see your mom soon!
I have no idea what they had to do! But they’re in NY & she’s in CA now.
