With only 3 working days, the week still went by too fast. The weekends go by even faster. I am definitely not complaining. It actually felt really good to teach for 3 days. Though Monday’s Institute Day left me with a bitter taste in my mouth. Yep, more work for us! I talk about it towards the end of this post.
This week felt like Spring. We had a lot of sunny and warm days. I was happy to run in shorts again! It was beautiful with all of the leaves on the ground too.
Again, this week was easy runs along with some fun workouts. Was I nervous? A little. Did I ace my workouts? Absolutely! Tuesday was 5 x 1:30 intervals with 1:30 recovery. Target pace for each interval was 9:45. The splits were 9:32, 9:27, 9:18, 9:25, and 9:28. Friday was again 3 miles progressive run with half mile at the end for recovery. I ran by feel and ran a little faster than last week’s 5k. Splits for each mile were 11:48, 11:14, and 10:22. And yes I ran those 3 miles without stopping.
I am finally in The Century Club! Haha, better late than never, right?
I am pleased to announce that I was accepted to be a part of the Koala Action Team. I love my Koala Clip and for over a year have been using it on every single run. I have a few discount codes for you. Use code AT2020 to get 10% off storewide. This discount is good through November 15. Also, starting November 16, there will be a “once a year” sale. That will be 15% off sitewide until November 23. There are a lot of new products online now. There are the ORIGINAL style Koala Clips up now and LUX is available for pre-order (they will ship by the end of the month). All of the new Koala Clip colors are coming with a much-improved clip. I just ordered 3 of the Lux Koala Clips. 🙂
Monday was an Institute Day and let’s just say it was not helpful at all. We spent most of the morning talking about standards based grading. Honestly I am not sure why we are even giving out grades this year. It is a joke! Not all of my students complete the assignments (which we do in class) and then those that do it on their own, I have no idea if anyone “helped” them.
Then we had some discussion about being there for our kids, understanding that they are going through a rough time, finding ways to get them to open up and talk to us, etc, etc. I know all of it and I agree with it. However, NOT ONCE was there any discussion about the teachers. We are also going through a rough time. We are also struggling. So basically who cares about us. And then to add insult to it, we were given more work to do. My students use Imagine Math, Imagine Español, and Imagine Literacy during class. I give them time to use log in those program. Now I am supposed to set up a weekly class goal and my students are supposed to have a weekly goal as well. Then I need to check if the class and the students met those goals. Finally, I need to have weekly conferences with them about their goal. So yeah I need to do all that plus teach them the curriculum, follow the pacing guide, assess/grade them, and be there for them as well. I was fuming! I cried because I did not know what else to do.
This week was interesting. Lots of things happened. Tuesday are Parent/Teacher Conferences. I am definitely not looking forward to them but I know that it needs to be done.
Linking up with Kim and Deborah for the Weekly Run Down.
I know that it’s tough for you teachers because I hear all about elearning from my young patients. It’s terrible. I’m so sorry you have to do this.
Thank goodness for running! You had some nice runs!
Thanks, Wendy. I am just so done with this and feel like I need to stop complaining about it so much.
Looks like your running is going splendid! Congrats on your 100th peloton class too. Nice week of workouts thanks for linking
Thanks, Deborah. Took me longer than I was anticipating. I bought the bike for the cycling classes but have not used it as much as I would have liked. I need to get my priorities straight. 🙂
Oh, so sorry for all the turmoil. I can’t even begin to imagine the additional burden teachers are facing with all this. I have often wondered, as well, how “quality” of an education students are getting right now…no discredit to the teachers, but to the integrity of the students themselves. Hugs to you. I know you’re doing all you can, and then 100% more.
Thanks, Kim. Kids are not getting a quality education. No matter what I do, it will never be the same. However, I still do what I can because that is all I can do right now.
Hugs, Zenaida, I hope this coming week goes better than expected. I think the younger generation are being hurt the most by the pandemic. I’m not a social butterfly, but I simply can’t even fathom going to school/college now.
But looking at you flying in your runs! Nice job.
Thanks goodness for running! I will always be grateful for it to help me during these rocky times.
Congrats on the Century Club! I hit it with strength. Your running is going well. Sorry the school system is piling on. It does seem like an odd time to be adding requirements.
The thing is that it is people that are not classroom teachers making these decisions. They clearly have no idea what it is like to teach right now.
Sorry to hear about the stressful week Zenaida. I’m glad you had some strong runs and warm weather as a way to get away from it all.
That definitely helped! The warmer weather did help me get in a better mood.
I don’t know how teachers are navigating this. Congrats on the Koala Team and navigating all of htis. HUGS
Thanks! I take it day by day. Some days I am a rockstar and other days I want to stay in bed and do nothing.
I’m on the Koala Clip action team too! So exciting! I’m sorry you don’t feel supported as a teacher. That is one thing we really try to do in our district. I am not sure if teachers would agree but I know we do make the effort.
Congrats, Lisa! Teachers don’t want more work. These are tough times for not only students and parents but for us too. It is like we don’t matter.
Ugh sorry your workload is getting bigger. E-learning is really turning into a nightmare for everyone – students and teachers 🙁
You had a great week of running! And welcome to the Century Club!
It is a nightmare for sure! The working from home I can deal with but the extra work I cannot. Plus having 27 students does not help at all.
That meeting sounds incredibly frustrating! I wish that people would also understand that teachers are doing double, maybe triple their normal workload and you guys need support too!
I kept shaking my head in disbelief how some people thought that was a good idea. More work? Seriously? How is that supporting the teachers? Now more than even I can understand why many of them are quitting.
Those interval paces are impressive.
And yes, it still feels like summer. I am loving it.
Hugs to you and all teachers!!!
Thanks! Now it will get cold again. What is the deal with Mother Nature?
It’s 2020 lol
I am just so sad for all our teachers this year. They are expected to deliver the world, with no extra support or compensation. You are all so amazing, and I wish there was some way to help.
Please hang in there.
I am so tired, frustrated, and exhausted. What gets me up in the morning (besides running) is knowing that I am making a difference. I’d like to think that I am. I get frustrated when half of my kids don’t pay attention to the lessons I spent HOURS putting together. When that happens I have them do independent work or take a break. But then I feel like parents are judging me. Oh well. I have my days when I feel like rockstar and others when I want to say in bed all day.
Congrats on the Century Club! I did my 50th peloton run this past weekend but it wouldn’t let me join the live class so I didn’t get a shoutout ;-/
I feel for all the teachers out there. You guys work so hard and have had to adjust so much this year. Hang in there.
Oh what a bummer! Hopefully you will get in for your 100th.
Thanks for the support. I am hanging in there but it is just so hard.
There is lots of pressure in our district to get the kids back in high school. The elementary and middle schools went back but shut down again due to the resurgence. One of the parents made a comment that the teachers are “sitting at home doing nothing”. I thought that was incredibly ignorant. I know they’re working harder than ever now. Ugh. Congrats on the Century Club and the Koala gig!
What an awful thing that parent said! They clearly have no idea.
I hope this week was better for you. I did not have any conferences with my kids teachers recently, but I did make an effort and sent them an email thanking them for all that they have done this year. Your comments really make me think about their job and how little they probably hear praise for their work. And thank you for all you do for your students! 🙂
Aww, thanks! My post are mainly because I am frustrated. 🙂
