This week’s Tuesday Topic is: What was your favorite book you read last year? You can write about this topic or feel free to post any running related blog post. Remember to link up with Kim and Zenaida! Visit at least two of the other linked posts – the more the merrier! Remember to come back for later linkers!
I love to read. I find it so relaxing to sit down on the sofa or anywhere comfortable and read a book. Add a glass of wine and it is much better. :-). Reading takes me to a new place. Reading transports me to the place where the story takes place. It is a whole new world for me.
Thanks to Wendy for posting the books she has read. I go through it and then pick a few to place a hold at the library. Others I have read based on other people’s recommendation as well.
I don’t have a favorite book that I read last year. I read a few interesting books and it was hard to pick one. I wished I could say that I read more books since I did have more time last year. I didn’t. I also watched a lot of TV last year. Thanks Netflix! Also, none of the books I read were running or fitness related but I do have one on my list to read this year.
Unorthodox – Wow! I enjoyed everything about it and learned about Hasidic Jewish traditions. I also enjoyed the Netflix series. It was a perfect thing to do during the beginning of quarantine.
Truths I Never Told You – I could not put this book down. I knew it was a very different way of living in the 50s and 60s but to read about (illegal) abortion made me feel sad and angry.
Ghosted – I was not too crazy about this book. I only finished it because I wanted to see how it ended. Rosie Walsh meets the perfect man. Somehow he then starts to avoid her. Ha, I thought he was just a jerk. He wasn’t. There is a family tragedy that took place years ago and it involves both families.
Darling Rose Red – This was another I could not put down. At one point I remember it was late and dark and I was still outside in the balcony reading. It was twisted but yet interesting. I had never heard of Munchausen syndrome by proxy and this book is an example of it. Cannot imagine how this could be happening out there.
Books I am writing to get from the library are:
The Silent Patient
Win at All Costs
The Vanishing Half
The Promised Land (I have the audiobook and started listening to it but keep getting distracted).
“Darling Rose Gold” is just screaming “read me now”.
I looked up some reviews and it seems to be very captivating, just like you describe it.
Thanks for the recommendation, Zenaida!
Let me know if you read it. Perfect book for a book club discussion.
I should read Unorthodox. The hubs and I loved the series on NetFlix. Sadly, I don’t read many books these days…
Wasn’t the series great? I loved it but I still had many questions. The book obviously explains more and at times I felt like it was too much. Still a great book!
I’ve heard about the Unorthodox Netflix series but never got around to watching it. I think I’ll check out the book instead!
The series was one of those things to do during quarantine. There was nothing else to do. Haha. 🙂
Love this post. I read a lot . Every night instead of TV sometimes. I need to write down the books though. I never remember all of them..
I enjoyed Anxious People by Backman, the Orphan Collector by Wiseman, Undone by Slaughter and many other easy reading and mysteries.
The Silent Patient was great. I’m waiting to get the Vanishing Half from the library. I will add Darling Rose Gold to my list.
I used to post my favorite book each month in my Four Somethings post which I’ve been neglecting.
I remember you had mentioned The Orphan Collector. I got it from the library but had to return it because someone else had requested it.
Hopefully you can get it out again. I’m waiting on the Vanishing Half.
Some great suggestions here! I only watched the Netflix adaptation of Unorthodox. I did read the Vanishing Half, but didn’t rank it as one of my favorites; it was good though. Thanks for hosting the link-up!
I enjoyed the series. It was the perfect thing to watch during quarantine.
I love reading too but sadly I can’t say I’ve read much in the last decade. Its something I really want to get back to this year as I’ve really missed it. I’ve got a few lined up that were bought as gifts – both Obamas for a start! I may have to squeeze in some light reading between them though! Thanks for sharing your books!
Yes, start with those two. Well, I’ve only read “Becoming” which I enjoyed a lot. The Netflix series is great too.
I’ll be adding Darling Rose Gold to my reading list. Those people are truly messed up.
I also watched a lot of Netflix last year. 😉
Yes they are. I just couldn’t believe that people like that are really out there.
I listen to The Promised Land when I go back & forth to my mom (it’s almost 4 hours of driving). I love it so far — not that I’m that far into it, I never seem to listen to it when I’m not driving it, LOL!
I started listening to it whenever I was driving but then realized I wasn’t paying too much attention because I was focused on driving so I stopped. Then I listened while running but I’d rather listen to music. The book will have to do.
My driving to my mom is mostly highway driving so I thank god for audiobooks!
Oooooh! I loved Unorthodox and I am obsessed with the stories of Munchausen By Proxy. It’s so horrific that it almost can’t be real. Adding both of those to my list.
I know what you mean! I didn’t realize that there are people like that out there!!
Wendy is one of my go-to’s for books! I loved Unorthodox and the follow up Exodus, and Vanishing Half was also high on my reading list for last year. Usually if I don’t like a book I just skip it on my blog, but I’ll be catty and ‘fess up here…I know that a lot of people really loved the Silent Patient, but I hated it. It was one of those books that I skimmed just to find out the ending and my reaction was “really???”
Interesting about The Silent Patient. I’ll let you know what I think of it when I read it.
Got another one for you, Z. The Girl with the Louding Voice was so good. I’m making my way through my backlist…I have a lot of books in my Kindle, just waiting to be read. This was my first 5 star read of the year. I’ll have more on this month’s coffee talk post.
Thanks, Wendy! I put that book on hold at the library. Looking forward to read what other books your recommend.
I also read a ton this year! I forgot that I wanted to read Unorthodox thanks for reminding me 🙂
I hope you like it!
I haven’t read any of those books. Currently, I’m on a kick reading books about hiking or running the Appalachian Trail (or other trails), visiting the National Parks, and any books about exploring outdoors.
Do share those book you are reading!
Wendy is my book “dealer” as well al ong with Liz. So many books, so little time. Of yours I’ve only read Unorthodox, and I also enjoyed it. My reading is all over. Andie Mitchell It Was Me All Along was probably my number one, but I also enjoyed Run to the Finish. Currently reading Time’s Convert by Deborah Harkness.
I think Wendy had mentioned Run to the Finish in a blog post. It sounds so familiar. Will have to check it out.
I think she did too. A bunch of folks know her from her blog, but I didn’t until her book came out
