What an exhausting week. I survived my first week of school and I completed my running streak! Â
Not too many running pictures except for Saturday’s run. I went to the lakefront to celebrate the end of my run streak. I got there a little before 6 and it was still dark. It was the perfect time to reflect on this running adventure that would end that day.
I was there for an hour. It was hot but felt good being out there. I saw many runners and it reminded me of when I was training for the Chicago Marathon. Yeah, do not miss it at all. OK, maybe a teeny tiny bit. Â
Total mileage for this run streak is 1,068.95!
So what is next? My coach and I will be working together again. The plan first is to get back to build a good, strong base and then train for a race. Maybe a half marathon. I would like to pick up where I left off and finish my goal of running a half marathon in each state. I still need 8 states (South Carolina, Kansas, Wyoming, South Dakota, North Dakota, Idaho, New Mexico, and Hawaii). I would also like to PR in the smaller distances. I do know I will not be running everyday anymore. It is time to get serious now and incorporate strength training in my workouts.
I had two days of meetings and PD. Our new Superintendent went to our school on Tuesday. He encouraged all of us to reach out and email him. I have emailed him a few times and he has responded. It made me happy when he said “Your voice matters”. Let’s hope he and his team really mean it. Â
All 21 students showed up this week. It was chaos but I know it will get better. These students left school on March 13, 2020, but don’t know if any returned when parents were given the opportunity to send them back to school. All I know is that I have A LOT of work to do. And it requires so much patience. It was hard to get them to follow directions; simple directions is not simple for them. A few left the room (more like ran) to go to the bathroom. I told them that they cannot just leave the room and that they needed to let me know.
I am on the 2nd floor and somehow during dismissal I “lost” a few students on the way out. We practiced the next day and it went better. And we practiced again on Friday, but one girl left and I didn’t see who she left with. One of my students said she left with her mom. I don’t know all of the parents yet but in the past sometimes a sibling, another family member, neighbor, or babysitter picks up a student.
I understand the reason for wearing a mask, but it is so hard to wear it all day. I told my students that I would be speaking loud because of the mask. I also asked me to talk louder (they have to wear masks too). Fun times, right?
I was very late in responding to posts from Sunday and Tuesday. So sorry but it was hectic this week. Better late than never, right? I am not sure if I will read posts today because I need to do a few things for my students and work on my lesson plans. But I promise I will read and respond.
Linking up with Kim and Deborah for the Weekly Run Down.
congrats on your run streak! That’s a great accomplishment. How nice that your students are back in class. I am sure you will all fall into a routine in a few weeks
We are going on week 3 and it is going much better. I have a good group this year and am happy with them.
Oh, the school situation sounds CRAZY! Yes- wearing the mask all day long is really uncomfortable. It actually gives me a headache unless I find little breaks to take it off. I don’t know if you have that option, but if you can get away from students for a minute of two and take your mask off, it feels amazing. You could even just do it in the bathroom, but be warned- one time I was doing that and dropped my mask on the floor of the bathroom. Gross.
Congrats on your run streak!!!!!!!!! What an amazing accomplishment. And how fun to look ahead at some different things coming up.
Good luck this week!
I do take breaks here and there. There is no way we can have it on all day.
Congratulations on your run streak! Such an amazing accomplishment 🙂 Also, congrats on surviving your first full week of teaching. I can imagine things are a bit crazy now but hopefully things will get better once everyone settles into a nice routine.
Thanks, Kim. Things have settled down a bit for now. This week we are MAP testing. Ugh, I hate those tests but they’re required by the state.
Congratulations on completing your one-year run streak! I imagine it would be hard to focus on serious training when the main focus is on getting in a run every day. It’s got to be hard to build mileage when there are no rest days, right?
Hope your work days settle down and your students start following rules better quickly.
Exactly. My goal was just to get in a run every day. Now I can get serious about my training.
Congrats on finishing your run streak! You are so focused now on moving forward and I think you have a good plan. It sounds like you’re going to have to dig deep with your students too! I understand about the masks. We have to wear them at work all day. I spend a lot of time reminding PARENTS to keep their mask over their noses. It’s amazing that after all this time, people still don’t know how to wear them (or don’t get it).
Have a great week!
I have a few kids that I have to remind to keep their mask over their nose. But other than that they are pretty good about it. A few bring an extra one and have asked me if they could replace it with another one (which I am assuming is wet from breathing). But they are pretty good about keeping it on during the day.
Huge congrats on the run streak!! I have so much respect for your patience with your students…I know I couldn’t do that daily.
Thanks, Kim. I am taking it day by day. I also keep reminding myself that they are kids. 🙂
I definitely feel like I have to talk SO loudly to be heard in a mask…I’m constantly repeating myself, but it’s worth it to end this thing!
Congrats on the running streak and good luck with the half training Zenaida!
I definitely agree!
Wow, only 8 more states until you reach your goal? That’s a lot of states completed! Both of my kids are wearing masks in class again. It sounds better than last year so I haven’t heard many complaints about it yet. And, I have a bunch of new fabric for pretty new masks. Oh boy!
I saved the best for last! 🙂 Those states are the ones that aren’t easy to get to with Southwest. Now time to plan and figure out the logistics.
How amazing are you! Finishing week one of school and 365 days of streaking! I’m so proud of you! So very proud. I will finish 100 days of streaking soon, and I’m thrilled for that.
Thanks so much! Congrats on your streak too!!
