It may be May but it is still dreary here but next week it is supposed to warm up.  So much rain here and I am tired of it.  I am happy it is Friday as I am counting down the days till the last day of school.  I’m starting off the weekend with a little catch-up over the Ultimate Coffee Date hosted by Coco and Deborah.  So grab a mug of your favorite beverage and let’s chat for a bit!

If we were having coffee…
I tell you that I hope you have a great Mother’s Day on Sunday.  As of now I have no idea what we are doing.  My mother keeps talking about Tuesday because Mexicans celebrate Mother’s Day on May 10th.  She didn’t realize Mother’s Day is on Sunday.

If we were having coffee…
I’d tell you that as much as I enjoy my students, I am getting really tired of every single question they ask.  I do encourage them to ask questions but they’re overdoing it.  They ask about EVERY SINGLE LITTLE THING.  Is that how it is when one has kids?  It didn’t bother me before but lately it has and I am trying to figure out the reason.  Maybe the reason is that I am tired?

If we were having coffee…
I’d ask you if you’ve had to call the ambulance after seeing a man face down on the ground.  Yesterday during my run I saw a man squatting on the ground (that is all he was doing).  Then on my way back home I saw him again but this time he was faced down on the sidewalk.  I called 911 and told the operator about the man and that I wasn’t sure if he was sleeping or passed out.  I was then transferred to another department.  I repeated the same story.  I didn’t want to leave but wasn’t sure how long the ambulance would take.  Then I heard the sirens.  Both the ambulance and the fire truck showed up and stopped in front of the man.  A few seconds later he got up.  He was OK and I continued on with my run (I was less than a mile away from home).  Part of me felt silly but at the same time am glad I called.  What if he hadn’t gotten up?

If we were having coffee…
I’d tell you that after wearing glasses for a few years, I got contacts again.  Let me explain.  I used to wear glasses and contacts.  Then I had lasik surgery.  I knew that eventually I would need glasses again.  I am OK with wearing them but sometimes they’re a hassle.  Plus, I break them often or misplace them and they’re not cheap.  It felt weird the first time I put them on.  The only problem is that sometimes I cannot see clearly things that are small and up close (I need to move them further away).  It is the same without the contacts.  Overall, I am happy with them because I don’t need to wear my glasses that much anymore.

If we were having coffee…
I’d tell you that I got so many nice things from my students for Teacher Appreciation Week.  I’ve gotten lots of cards (the handmade are the best), flowers, cookies, and a Dunkin Donuts coffee tumbler with a gift card.  One student came up to me and told me “Thank you for teaching me”.  Made me smile and you bet I hugged him.

  1. That’s so nice that you got gifts from your students. it means that they appreciate you.

The last time I was in NYC, we saw someone fall on the sidewalk but others stopped too and called 911.

I wear contacts… never got the surgery. Lately I have been wearing my glasses more. Just lazy. But I don’t run everyday so I usually only wear contacts on running days.

Eventually we will all get cataracts (me sooner than you) and we won’t need glasses or contacts.

    • This year I got way more gifts and I think it is because I mentioned Teacher Appreciation Week in the monthly newsletter. πŸ™‚ I mostly wear my contacts during the week and take them off when I get home. I also do not wear them during my runs because I don’t want to put anything in my eyes that early.

  2. I think it was a good idea to call 911 you just never know. Hope your mom has a great mother’s day!

  3. It’s good you called 911! People who are “okay” don’t lie face down on the ground. Nothing like that has ever happened to me- I mean, having to call 911. I’ve also never laid face down on the ground.
Yes, I’m sure you’re counting down the days! Teachers really need a break. And yes, the incessant questions from your own kids gets old. Especially since my daughter always prefaces every question with a whiny sounding, “Mo-om…” Sigh!

  4. So happy you were recognised on Teacher’s Day – you really give your all to teaching (and YES, kids ask questions all the time at home as well so I can’t imagine having to deal with 20/30 of them every day!).

I’m glad you called – never feel silly for seeking help for someone even if it turns out not to be too serious.

  5. Happy Teacher Appreciation Week! Thank you for all that you do!

I have had to call 911 on the run – bike crash and a situation similar to your story. Better safe than sorry.

Looking forward to some nicer weather. We may need an ark soon!

  6. Interesting about celebrating mothers on a different day! I didn’t know that.

I’ve only had to call 911 once, and that was for my mom. I think you did the right thing. What if he’d OD’d?

I wear contacts. Love my contacts. HATE running in glasses! I’m not really a candidate for LASIK due to a few factors but I wish I was.

  7. I hope you’ve had a great Teacher’s Appreciation Week! Sounds like your students really admire you πŸ˜‰

  8. I love that you received so many nice gifts for Teacher Appreciation Week – so well deserved!

I would have called for help for the man as well. You just never know and better to be safe than sorry.

  9. I’m glad to hear that you were appreciated by your students.

I would have called for help too for that man. But why was he laying on the ground?

  10. Yep, little kids ask questions about everything all.the.time. It is exhausting!

I agree you made the right call on that person. I called once when there was someone sleeping/passed out in the median of a busy road. It really was out of concern for their safety.

  11. There isn’t enough appreciation for teachers. Especially now.

I have called 911 on runs before. It’s better to be safe than sorry.

  12. I’m so glad your students made you feel appreciated! I’d have called 911 for that man as well. Something had to be wrong because that is certainly not normal. Wonder why he was there?

  13. I’m glad the guy ended up being okay! It would’ve been hard to know if he was really okay, so it’s good that you made sure just in case!

I’m terrible with wearing glasses so I also got lasik done! Hoping it’ll last me a long while, but if not, I’m going back to contacts too!

    • I would like to get lasik again. I’ll have to check with an eye doctor. I am still young and it would be nice to not have to worry again about contacts or glasses. πŸ™‚
