What a week! I am officially on Summer Break and will be going in today to set up my classroom. School starts on Monday. The good thing is that it is only for 3 weeks and will be done June 30th. Also, we are off on the 20th and on the 28th it will be a Remote Day (we still have to go in but students do not).
Running is going OK. The weather has been pleasant but next week we will have our hot days.
Here are a few thoughts from this week:
💭 Mortgage interest rate – Holy cow! I’ve been wide awake at night thinking about it. How can it be so high? Will it keep getting higher? Will I still be able to afford a house?
💭 Twitter – I am not a big fan of it but so far am liking it. Much of the conversation right now is about teachers, the January 6th Hearing, and the mess with the Republicans. Many times I shake my head in disbelief with the things Republicans are doing/not doing.
💭 Parents – How can they be irresponsible and really think we are simply babysitters? Remember my student that was giving me trouble? He had been acting out. I thought for sure he would be suspended. He didn’t. Long story short, he should have stayed home on Tuesday. It was Field Day (we went in the morning) for everyone and he didn’t deserve to go. The rest of the day he was with other teachers instead of being in my room. I know the school called parents to pick him up and they didn’t. I saw mom after 3pm when she picked up her other son. He said something to me and I responded but I was doing something else for another mom. When I was done I walked away. I had NO desire to talk to mom. Well, actually I did, but I knew that I would just go off on her.
💭 Summer School – There will be 21 students in my class. How and why? I had 22 in the school year and that was tough. Why do administrators think that is a good decision? Many administrators have no idea what it is like being in the classroom now. Some may have been classroom teachers YEARS ago but so many things have changed. I am determined to make it a good 3 weeks for my students. I just need to remember that I will be teaching 1st graders (not 2nd graders) and in English (not in Spanish).
💭 Planning for next year – I haven’t made definite travel plans for this year but am already thinking of going on a cruise next year. It is a 7 night Greek Isles Cruise in July. Anyone want to go? Here is the link with more information.

I’m glad I’m not the only one that worries when I run. It’s usually about work. Ugh.
That cruise sounds like fun. I wish I had the time off.
Enjoy your time off and your runs.
Too much thinking going on during a run.
I feel you on the mortgage rates. My daughter is in the process of buying a place. Why didn’t we do this last year when interest rates were low?
It is so crazy! I was also looking last year but houses were selling like hot cakes.
Cruise in the Greek Isles sounds amazing! We just booked a 2 week trip to Spain for end July/beginning of August. Can’t wait. When does summer school start?
That trip sounds amazing too. School starts on Monday. Sort of ready for it.
I hope that Summer school ends up being a great experience for you.
That cruise sounds divine, but I will definitely pass on it. If you go, I hope you have a great time! Maybe by then all the requirements won’t be so difficult.
I suppose it’s a good thing we are not planning to move now — even if you get a great price for your house, you still have to buy another one! Good luck with the house hunt.
I am actually looking forward to it! Plus, 3 weeks will go by fast. I am glad that it is only till 12:15pm so I have the rest of the day to myself.
Oh a Greek Islands cruise sounds like a fantastic idea for a vacation!
21 is a lot of students! I hope summer school goes well for you.
Thanks! I will make it as fun as I can.
