If we were having coffeeβ¦
I’d tell you that I don’t understand the deal with Easter baskets.Β Is it because I never got any as a kid?Β Or is it because I don’t believe in Easter?Β I saw many friends posting pictures of their kids with their baskets.Β It came to a point where I was annoyed with them.
If we were having coffeeβ¦
I’d tell you that I finally admitted to a friend (and to myself) that I don’t believe in Jesus, God, Heaven, etc.Β A friend had asked me if I wanted to go with her to watch the Via Crucis.Β I told her that I didn’t like watching it and she asked me why.Β That is what prompted the whole conversation.Β At one point I know I did believe in all that.Β I went to a Catholic school from grades 1-8.Β As I got older I remember going to church and feeling at peace and very calm.Β I don’t know what happened to not believing in that anymore.Β
If we were having coffeeβ¦
I’d ask if after learning what I said about Jesus and God, does it make me a hypocrite when in a moment of desperation, I do “pray to someone”?Β I know I will never get everything that I want but you all know how much I want to buy a house and still nothing.Β The interest rates keep going up and soon it will be a crappy time to buy for those with good credit.Β I have my moments of desperation because of it along with other personal stuff.
If we were having coffeeβ¦
I’d tell you that I am loving Grammarly.Β I use the free version and that is fine.Β I am good with spelling but many times struggle with grammar.Β I also am not a very good writer.Β You may wonder how since I am a teacher and I have a blog!Β Writing is hard and I never did well when I had to submit a term paper or research paper.Β I love how Grammarly makes suggestions for me.Β Sometimes I look at previous posts and cringe at all of the mistakes I’ve made (before using Grammarly).
If we were having coffeeβ¦
I’d tell you that I will be done with school in 4 weeks.Β I will not stop talking about it until I am done.Β I am exhausted.Β I have 3 kids that misbehave so much and I don’t know what else to do.Β They say mean things to others and are rude.Β They do not play nicely and hit other kids.Β I tell them that they are kids and that they should be having fun, coloring, etc., and not being mean.
The topic for next week’s Fit Fit Friday – Your 5 favorite fitness power songs.Β Feel free to write about this or any fitness topic you’d like.Β We hope youβll link up with us!

Oh Zenaida. It sounds like things are tough for you right now. Hang in there! The school year is almost over.
Thanks, Wendy. I am counting the days!
Sounds like the summer break cannot come soon enough…sorry for the continued work stress. I am always amazed at how some kids behave (actually, misbehave). I do think it all goes back to their home life, which is really sad…
I agree. Many times I do wonder what could be happening at home.
I have no doubt that by the time weβre ready to move it wonβt be a good time.
Iβm sorry those few kids are spoiling things!
I know many people who arenβt religious or spiritual. Not always easy in todayβs world, but I still believe in a higher power.
The worse thing is that these kids are little. Why are 7 and 8 years olds misbehaving so much.
Easter baskets β the tradition is they are a gift left by the Easter Bunny. As with all things in the Instagram age, theyβve gotten out of hand. And, donβt ask me to explain the Easter Bunny!
Faith issues are tough. I think Iβve made it clear on my blog that I belong to an Episcopalian church, but even we are open to non-believers looking for community, etc.
I agree that the Easter baskets have gotten out of hand!
It sounds like you have a lot on your mind right now! Religion is tough to grasp at times. Hope the rest of your school year runs smoothly
Thanks, Deborah!
I’m sorry things at work have been so challenging. I have always said that I think teaching is one of the toughest jobs there is. I hope these final 4 week move quickly for you. Are you teaching summer school this year?
Yes I am. I will be working with kids that will start Kindergarten in the Fall. I did this last year and I enjoyed it.
Well, you don’t shy away from big topics! I was just listening to a Rich Roll podcast with Rainn Wilson, who in addition to playing Dwight Shrute on The Office is also a member of the Baha’i faith and has a new book out about spirituality. He dismisses the idea of God as a “being with superpowers” and talks instead about a different kind of spirituality- interesting stuff, in case you’re looking for someone or something to pray to about your house!
The countdown is on! Four weeks- we’re counting down in our house too. Hang in there.
Sometimes I surprise myself and others with these interesting topics! π
You can do it! I remember being in a classroom and literally having a countdown of the number of active teaching minutes I had left in the semester. Then you will have a long break without any disrespectful students!
I have that number in my calendar and on the board! π
The end of the school year will be here before you know it! Hang in there!
I was an English major but I love Grammarly, too!
Thanks, Erica! Hopefully this Summer we can meet up.
I don’t believe either, so if you ever need to chat, hit me up. It’s especially difficult because of where I live. Sigh. That being said, I love Easter baskets and Christmas stockings and little gifts, so that’s what we do here.
I am so happy you are almost done with school. I can’t even imagine how hard it must be in the current climate. The behavior issues here are absolutely terrifying and I feel so badly for our teachers and most of the kids.
Thanks!
I’m so sorry you have a handful that make class challenging. I have a few of those too and it’s so disappointing. I hope you get to do something fun this summer! I’ll be counting right along with you.
It is so sad to see these behavior issues.
My mother was religious for a period after she split up with my dad, which meant that “we” (my brother and I) also “had” to be religious. And to be honest I see it like anything else that one wants to believe in. We all want to believe in something, whether it is a god or goddess, or a special deity or the universe or whatever. I respect people having faith as long as they don’t use their faith to judge me or force laws upon me. And I remember Easter well; I got a new dress, we went to “Sonrise” Service and got a basket as well. At some point I was old enough to see the blatant hypocritical behaviour of people in the congregation and decided I’d had enough. By the way though, if you need to pray, it’s ok. It doesn’t matter to whom you pray, even if it’s a made up person.
Wishing you massive strength the coming weeks to get through until the end of the year. Wish I was there to give you a big hug.
Thanks so much. I like what you said about the need to pray even if it is a made up person.
I was raised Jewish. My hubby is catholic. But we donβt practice anything.
Summer break will be here before you know it. And it sounds like you are more than ready.
I am always ready around this time. Now it is three weeks to go!
Oh my goodness, your challenge students sound really exhausting. I hope the end of the year comes very quickly for you!
I pray even though I don’t know WHAT I believe. I think there’s nothing wrong with voicing your needs and concerns and gratitude to the universe.
Grammarly interests me so much, but I think it would annoy me more than anything? Already the programs I use offer small suggestions, and sometimes they are helpful, but more often they are plain wrong. Plus, sometimes I use a certain phrasing because of the rhythm or sound of the words, rather than because it is the most efficient way to say a thing. But I love that you are finding it to be helpful!
Sometimes I don’t go with the suggestions but other than that it’s been a big help for me.
For years I used to put together a ‘family Easter basket’, with gifts for all of us. I’m not religious, didn’t pretend like they came from a rabbit or anything. It was fun, but now I’m over it, so no one gets anything.
I’m atheist, was raised that way. I pray for things sometimes too. I had a friend recently tell me (in a kind way) that she didn’t know how people got through the death of loved ones without God to help them. When my mom died, I think there would have been comfort if I could have believed she was there with him, that there was some kind of afterlife. I’ve never been able to get there though, and it feels like lying to myself, in order to get something.
Sigh.
That is so interesting. Just like your friend said that to you about God and the death of a loved one, I question the same thing about God. Is he real? Do people that die go with him? Interesting conversation. π
I’m sorry to hear that school has been so draining. :[ Hang in there–just one more week left! <3 I hope you enjoy the hell out of your much-deserved break!
Thank you!
