We’ve got FIVE incredible co-hosts My First 5K and More, Running With Attitude, Run Laugh Eat Pie, Runs with Pugs, and me for another Fit Five Friday link-up! This week’s topic is “5 favorite running /fitness resources”. Feel free to write about this or any fitness topic you’d like.
Here are some of my tips to rest and recover:
✅ Get a massage. There was a time when I would get one every 2 weeks. I would always feel so much better afterward. I haven’t had one since February 2020. I know I need to follow my advice but I haven’t looked for another masseuse. In the meantime, I use my massage gun. I know it isn’t the same thing but it is something.
✅ Sleep. Our bodies recover and rest when we sleep. Unfortunately, I do not get enough sleep. I go to bed at 9 but then wake up around 3-3:30 to use the bathroom. Sometimes I go back to sleep and other times I am wide awake and trying to go back to sleep. Then I get up at 5 to start my day. Sometimes I take a nap during the day.
✅ Walk. I was never a fan of it but I have been incorporating more of it into my routine lately. I walk back home after my run. “Walking helps stimulate blood flow, aids in eliminating toxins, keeps muscles flexible, reduces lactic acid buildup and soreness in muscles, and reduces your recovery time.” My running plan has me running 5 days a week with one day of rest and another day of rest or cross-training. I like to go out for an easy 2-mile walk in the neighborhood while I listen to music.
✅ Stretch. I am sometimes guilty of not doing enough of it. But when I do it, it feels good all over.
✅ Do nothing and rest. There is nothing wrong with just doing nothing and rest. I like to watch TV and read a book. During the Summer I like going out on the balcony with my cats while I read a book. When my mom is here, we go out while she listens to music.
The topic for next week: Runfessions with Marcia! We hope you’ll link up with us!
all good ideas… believe it or not I have never gotten a massage (and I have 2 gift certificates to use up).
walking is great. I think it really helps me after a long race.
My favorite is to eat or drink or both.
Walking after a marathon is great. It hurts but it definitely helps with recovery.
It helped me. I must remember to do that again.
Agree on all of these – plus don’t forget hydration, hydration, hydration!
Oh yeah definitely! Summer in the city always requires me to drink a lot of water.
Yes to all of these! It’s been more than a minute since I’ve had a massage – I need to fix that!
Yes, do it!
These are fabulous recovery tips! Rest is so underrated. I know I’m pretty terrible at it.
Many of us are.
