This week’s Tuesday Topic is a FREE topic. Feel free to post any running-related blog post. Remember to link up with Jenn and Zenaida! Visit at least two of the other linked posts – the more the merrier! Remember to come back for later linkers!
Let me tell you about how February went for me:
Mileage: So far I’ve run 14.87 and walked 1.64 miles this month. It’s been a nonproductive run for running/walking.
Run the Year 2024: I signed up to run and walk 2,024 miles this year. I have completed 59.69 miles (per the RTE Tracker). I know I have a lot of work to do here. Once the weather is better, I plan to walk to work a few times a week. It is 6.2 miles to work so I think it is doable.
Current Book: I finish reading “Nowhere Girl”. There were some parts that were sad but overall I enjoyed the book. Currently I am reading “The Lincoln Highway”. I saw the map in the book and it makes me want to get in my car and drive along the highway.
Injuries: None.
Races: None.
Health: I am doing OK. Depending on how my day goes, I sleep well and on other days I don’t.
School: It is going OK. Also, busy with tests and assignments. We are learning about insects and the students are enjoying the lessons. Lots of information!
We read a book in Spanish about saving the sea turtles. We watched a video from the Dominican Republic which shows the baby turtles going to the sea. My students enjoyed it. Also, in the book, one of the characters made a turtle with clay. We did the same thing. They had fun with it too.
What I am looking forward to next month: A few days off from school (Pulaski Day and Good Friday). I am going to San Antonio with my mom for my aunt’s 90th birthday party. I am not sure if I am still going to NY because I haven’t been training for the half marathon.
The topic for next week: How do you maintain your running motivation? Feel free to write about this or any running-related topic. We hope you’ll link up with us!
That is a long walk. Good luck.
Enjoy your San Antonio trip.
It is hard to get motivated in the cold weather.
No injuries and healthy is the best news.
I know. Years ago when I worked downtown and lived on the north side of the city, I walked home to prepare for the 3-Day Breast Cancer Walk. I checked Google Maps and that was almost 3 hours of walking!
That will be great if you’re able to walk to work on a consistent basis. I’m sure there will be days when you have a lot to carry and it won’t be feasible, but on the days that you can you’ll get in some wonderful additional exercise. I hope it works out for you.
A couple of years ago while we were at the beach my husband’s brother and our sister-in-law were very involved with guiding the baby turtles to the ocean when they hatched at night. It was a huge effort by many people!
Yes, many people are involved! We loved it.
I love that you guys also made a clay turtle, that looks so fun! Would you recommend either of those books? I tend to stick with the same genre and I am trying to get better about branching out!
I do recommend them. They’re both very different which I like. Wendy reviews books and posts about them every month. I have been keeping a list of the books and check them off as I finish reading them.
How long would it take you to walk to work?! That’s a lot!
Per Google Maps, it is about 2 hours. It is a lot. I might have to reconsider. 🙂
No injures- that’s a win right there! Hang in there- not only do you have Pulaski and and Good Friday off, you have spring break coming up as well, right? January and February are hard months in Illinois- spring is right around the corner.
The “easiest” months are coming! Only 3 months to go.
Oh, those little turtles are so cute! How fun!
I think the RTY is so great for keeping things on track. I used it several times throughout my fitness journey, just to make sure I keep myself going.
Nice job on reading. I’m still trying to get through Sisters In Law (it’s very good, but very detailed non fiction, so it takes me longer), but I am starting to read around it just so I can keep on moving through my to-be-read pile.
This is my 2nd time using RTY and like it.
Hopefully getting into a walking routine will motivate you to return to running. Good luck!
Me too! I have a couple of races I signed up for this year and I do not want to skip them.
Oh, it seems that my comment yesterday disappeared… I wanted to comment on that awesome turtle project. I love that you combined a book with a film and crafts. Those little clay turtles are adorable!
Your students will never forget this.
I hope you get to do NY even if you don’t feel fully trained for it!
That is what I keep telling myself. I want them to also remember the fun things we do in class. One of my girls from last year tells me that she misses me and my class. She also mentions how we used to dance in class.
That’s the best reward for being a good teacher!
I do my best to make it fun for my students.
