Fit Five Friday: 5 fun things I am planning to do during Summer break

I am finally on Summer Break!  Today is my second day and while I still woke up early, it felt good NOT to go to school.  Today I am taking my mother to the doctor for two appointments and then have a family gathering in the evening.  Busy day!  Next week I start Summer School and will be done July 9th.

As much as I would love to stay home and not leave my house unless it is absolutely necessary, I know that is not what I should do.  Illinois enters Phase 5 today and hopefully soon things will feel normal.

Let’s check out my list!

☑️ Do more runs along the Lakefront.  I miss it.  My excuse was that I didn’t have enough time to run there, come back home, and get read for work.

☑️ Go to the Immersive Van Gogh Exhibit Chicago.  I’ve heard good things about it and I am sure it will be fun.

☑️ Get together with friends.  Since this whole pandemic started, I’ve done this maybe 5 times.  I know I am introvert and while I may not meet with a large group, 2-3 friends is fine.  We all need to eat, right?

☑️ Travel.  A quick trip for a few days is just what I need.  I would love to travel to Mexico because my mother hasn’t been there in two years.  Two cities for sure I would like to visit are NY and Washington, DC.

☑️ Read.  Maybe some of you do not consider this fun but I love to read.  Right now I have 3 books from the library.  I need to check out Cari and Wendy’s blog because they have mentioned the books they’ve read in their posts.

Fit Five Friday and June Ultimate Coffee Date

I am so happy that it’s Friday!  I’m starting off the weekend with a little catch-up over the Ultimate Coffee Date hosted by Coco and Deborah.  So grab a mug of your favorite beverage and let’s chat for a bit!

If we were having coffee…
I’d tell you that even though I’ve been complaining pretty much all year about school, I am a teeny tiny bit excited (a little nervous too) for the new school year in August.  I will have new students and will be teaching new Reading and Math curriculums.  Also, students will be in the classroom.  It has to be better than this year, right?

If we were having coffee…
I’d tell you that a former student sent me and other teachers a thank you note.  I read it and cried.  It made me very happy to read her note.  I know I may not make a difference in all of my students (hopefully another teacher does) but it is nice to hear from a former student.  Unfortunately I have not seen her in over a year and hope she continues to do well in school.

If we were having coffee…
I’d tell you that as of this morning I am 33% into my goal of running 1,200 miles this year.  I told myself that if I can get to 50% by the end of June then I will it at 1,200 instead of changing it to 1,000 miles.  I can do this!

If we were having coffee…
I’d tell you that yesterday was my nephew’s high school graduation.  He enlisted in the Marines and will leave for Camp Pendleton sometime this month.  Honestly I thought he would to college somewhere in IL.  I am very happy for him and cannot wait to celebrate with the family this weekend.

If we were having coffee…
I’d tell you that I know it’s been warm these past couple of days but I’ve been EXTRA warm at night.  I remember being able to sleep comfortably at night with just a blanket.  Now even a blanket is too warm for me.  I wonder if it is me or it feels warmer in my apartment since I live on the 2nd floor.  It has to be the latter.  😅

Fit Five Friday and May 2021 Runfessions

It’s the last Friday of the month which means Marcia has opened the Runfessional!  It’s also time for another edition of Fit Five Friday hosted by DarleneRenéeJenn, Michelle, and me!  Let’s get started, shall we?!

 I runfess…
That I am so glad this month is almost over.  It was long.  It was hectic.  So many emotions (happy, sad, angry, etc) and it wasn’t easy dealing with them.  I like starting a new month cause I feel like I am starting over with everything.  I am just tired of so many things.

I runfess…
That yesterday I got my assignment for Summer School.  I will be teaching 1st grade bilingual in the classroom with 13 students.  While I am happy I will have kids in the room, part of me is still nervous.  I haven’t had 13 students in a classroom in more than one year.  While I know it is necessary, I am not happy that I have to wear a mask while I teach.  I know I shouldn’t be complaining about the mask since I know doctors, nurses, and other workers have to wear them for long hours each day.  June 14th is the first day of Summer School and it is only for 4 weeks so I will still have a few weeks off this Summer.

I runfess…
Last week I was miserable because my AC was not working in the apartment.  Thankfully it was fixed a few days later and it felt wonderful to have it on these past few days when it was hot.  However, yesterday morning it was 55 degrees outside.  It felt like Fall.  It was wonderful and pleasant to run outside.  This morning it was raining with high winds and it felt cold so I turned on the heat.  I haven’t done my run yet but I am planning to wear tights and a jacket.  This weather is just so weird!

I runfess
That I am an ambassador for two companies but haven’t really done much for them.  I’ve been thinking about letting them know that I do not plan to continue as an ambassador.  I still use the products but do not post anything about them on social media.  What would you do?  Stay or leave?

I runfess…
That I find it so rude when people do not respond to emails.  I understand that everyone is busy.  I don’t get a lot of work emails but always make some time to respond to them.  I’ve written some emails to an assistant superintendent asking some questions and she never responded to them.  Someone else said the same thing.  I sent another email to another assistant superintendent and instead of her answering my question, she told me to ask my Principal.  Many times I feel like they think they are better than us and have no time for us.  And they wonder why sometimes we don’t like them?!

I just realized that none of these are running related.  😀 🤷🏻‍♀️ Thanks again for listening to me!

Fit Five Friday: 5 pictures from this week

Happy Friday!  This has been a LONG week for me.  It warmed up yesterday and when I turned on the AC, it didn’t work.  Well, it did turn on but no cold air came out.  I told the landlord so hopefully he’ll send someone to fix it.  It is supposed to be hot this weekend and cold air will be greatly appreciated.

Let’s take a look at my pictures from this week.

📷 The photo of Mateo cracks me up!  He is giving me an evil look.  Every evening before going to bed, he meows because he wants a snack.  He won’t stop until I get up.  I love my little guy so much.

📷 I decided to organize my pens, pencils, highlighters, markers, etc.  Wow!  I didn’t realize I had so many.  These are what I had in my classroom and at home.  I definitely do not need more.

📷  Not exactly a photo but a meme.  I think Kim had it in one of her posts.  I had already saved it in my camera because I am planning to do something similar after Summer School.  This Summer I plan to relax and rest.

📷 I did not want to do my run on Monday but did it anyway.  My run was 4 miles with each mile faster than the previous one.  I ran in the evening and was already tired.  It wasn’t as fast as I would have wanted, but I did get negative splits.  Made me feel good when I saw the numbers!

📷 My students are revising and editing paragraphs.  Not as easy as I thought it was going to be to teach them.  However, a few have surprised me and have been able to do it correctly.  The challenging part now is writing it on paper.  Many have not written on paper in over a year and it’s been interesting seeing their handwriting.  😬

Fit Five Friday: 5 reasons I love my Peloton bike

I received my bike in August 2019.  Yep, before the pandemic.  I ordered it August 3 and received it 10 days later.  I will admit that I didn’t use it as much as I wanted to.  Early this year I resumed my membership after pausing it for a few months.  Now I use it about 3 days a week.  I am happy with that since I run everyday.

Read along to find out why I am loving it.

🚴🏻‍♀️ Variety of classes – The list is long with over 1,000 different classes.  You can pick from 5 minute to 90 minute classes.  You can also pick classes for beginners, low impact, intervals, climb, and theme.  Let’s not forget the music.  There is latin, pop, rock, etc.  The 80s and 90s pop ride classes are lots of fun.  One of my favorite classes is the 30 minute Momento Latino Ride with Robin.  The playlist made me dance and sing while on the bike.

🚴🏻‍♀️ Fun and great instructors – There are over 20 instructors offering classes.  My favorite instructor is Cody but I have ventured out and have also taken classes with Denis, Ally, Jenn, Robin, Olivia, Erik, Tunde, Alex, Leanne, Ben, Christine, Leanne, Emma, and Hannah.  Cody ALWAYS makes me laugh.  His classes are the perfect ones to take when I need someone to cheer me up.

🚴🏻‍♀️ Convenient – There is simply no excuse since I do not have to go anywhere to use it.  The bike is in my living room.  Sometimes I use it while watching TV.

🚴🏻‍♀️ Not just bike classes – With the Peloton membership there are many other classes to pick.  There is strength, yoga, cardio, meditation, running, tread bootcamp, bike bootcamp, and walking.  I’ve done mostly cycling and running with a few walking, strength, stretching, and meditation classes.  There is seriously many classes available.

🚴🏻‍♀️ Affordable monthly fee – I pay $39 per month (Peloton All-Access Membership).  Honestly I think it is a great deal as I mentioned that there are many different classes available.  There is also a Peloton Digital Membership for $12.99 per month.  With the latter a Peloton hardware is not required and you can use a computer, phone, tablet, or TV to access the classes.

Are you a Peloton user?  Bike or treadmill or both?
