Hard to believe that it is the last day in December! Oh and it is the last day of this decade. The plan was to stay home today, go to bed early, and wake up to 2020. However, my cousin invited us over to her house to celebrate. It is supposed to be cold and it snowed this morning so I am not sure if my mother would want to go. We’ll see.
This week’s Tuesday Topic: End of the Year Review. You can write about this topic or feel free to post any running related blog post. Remember to Link-up with Kim and Zenaida! Visit at least two of the other linked posts – the more the merrier! Remember to come back for later linkers!
I like to look back and write about my running stats. I like seeing how I did and think about what I want to change or do different next year. In late November I started working with a new coach and am excited to see how I do next year. I have a lot of old PRs and I would like to set some new ones in 2020.
For now let’s check out my stats:
⇒ I ran a total of 730.71 miles. Last year I ran 1,054.58 miles.
⇒ Time spent running: 146:27:24 hours. That’s about 6.09 days running in 2019!
⇒ Number of races: 5. See them here. Next year I plan to run a few half marathons in various states and a few local races that I do every year.
⇒ Best race: Detroit Free Press/TCF Bank Half Marathon in October. Even though I was undertrained with my longest mile being 6 miles, I had a great time running in Michigan and in Canada. The race was well organized and the weather was perfect!
⇒ Worst race: Delaware Marathon Running Festival and Missoula Half Marathon. Well, they weren’t exactly horrible but I did struggle a lot. The course was pretty in Delaware but it was hilly and I was frustrated towards the end. In Missoula it is mostly downhill and a nice course but my left foot bothered me and made running painful. Plus, the logistics to get there wasn’t easy and it is so darn expensive.
⇒ PRs set: 0.
⇒ Lowest mileage month: September with 29.46 miles. Last year December was my lowest with 45.37 miles.
⇒ Highest mileage month: June with 106.52 miles. Last year March was my highest with 121.43 miles.
⇒ Average pace over the course of the year: 12:02. Last year it was 12:06. 🙂
⇒ Average cadence: 158. Last year it was 162.
⇒ Shoes: I am still a Brooks fan and buy them from Zappos or Running Warehouse. Early this year Brooks banned me from ordering shoes from their website. At first I was upset about it but now I don’t care anymore because there are other places that now get my business. 🙂 This year I ran in the Levitate 1, Launch 5, Launch 6, Revel 3, and Ghost 11. I have a few new pairs in boxes and cannot wait to run in them in 2020!
Thank you to everyone that has joined us every Tuesday for this linkup. We’ve had some great topics and interesting discussion. We look forward to many more years (hopefully) of more fun topics and to encourage and support one another. Have a Safe and Happy New Year!

I know it was a really tough year for you, too, Zenaida, so here’s hoping that 2020 is your year! Have fun at your cousins if you go.
Thanks, Judy! I decided to stay home. I have a cold and don’t think others will appreciate me being there sneezing and blowing my nose.
Sorry about the cold. Always disappointing when you get sick on vacation. Feel better!
Thanks, Judy. I hope I am better by the time I go back to work next week.
I’m so glad that you loved the Detroit Half – My mom, a friend and I are planning on running the Detroit Half in October.
I hope that you have a great NYE and hope to see you at a race in 2020!
Glad you will go in October. You will all love it! Yes, we need to plan for a race in 2020.
I remember reading about Detroit….still on my bucket list! I am hoping one of these years it falls on a different weekend than Des Moines LOL I’m a Brooks gal, too 🙂 Happy New Year!
I also remember reading how you run the IMT Des Race too which happens to be on the same weekend. I just checked and both races are on the same weekend in 2020.
You ran some fun races this year! Cheers to an amazing 2020!
Thanks, Marcia! Perhaps I will see you at the Shamrock Shuffle again next year?
Ok I have to know why you were banned from buying shoes from the Brooks site?! Thanks for the link ups and fun this year. Cheers to happy running in 2020
Haha, I was told that I bought and returned too many shoes. I wrote about it here: http://zenaida.net/2019/06/02/weekly-run-down-banned-from-brooksrunning-and-summer-break/ Well, they didn’t exactly use the word “ban” but I am no longer allowed to buy anything from their website.
I love your detailed stats! Not only miles, but hours, cadence, average pace and what have you. A really nice running year!
And I need to know as well: why were you banned from the Brooks website? Sounds like an interesting back story.
Thanks, Catrina. Brooks basically said I ordered and returned too many shoes. I wrote about it here: http://zenaida.net/2019/06/02/weekly-run-down-banned-from-brooksrunning-and-summer-break/ Oh well, their loss since I can still buy shoes from Zappos and Running Warehouse.
You had a great year–that Detroit race sounds so cool. Did you need a passport to run over the bridge? Happy New Year!
I had to enter my passport number when I signed up. I also needed it to pick up my bib. And yes I had to run with it just in case one of the border patrols asked me for it (no one did).
You had a great year even if it didnt go exactly as planned! Hope you have a great start to 2020!
Thank you. Things never go as planned but that is life.
Thanks for hosting this link-up – what a great community you and Kim have built. I’ve recently switched to Brooks and I’m really enjoying the experience so far. They don’t sell them in Botswana though so I’ve had to be quite creative in getting myself a pair! Well done on your year of running and wishing you even more miles this year! 2020 – let’s do this!
I am glad you are enjoying Brooks! Wished there was a way to get you a pair or two.
I’ve loved following along with your training and of course all of the cute cat pictures. Happy 2020 and all the best for you this year!
Aww, thanks. I don’t have kids and I cannot post pictures of my students so cat pictures it is. 🙂
Congrats on a great year of running! I didn’t run as many races this year, hopefully I’ll be able to find some shorter distances in 2020 that don’t require a lot of training! Happy New Year!
Thank you. Here to a happy and healthy 2020! Oh, and excited about your baby too.
That’s crazy that Brooks banned you from buying shoes from their site!
I really want to run the Detroit Free Press event. That’s my target for when I run in Michigan!
Haha, I know. Their loss. I just get my shoes somewhere else.
Congrats on your great year of running!
Brooks banned you from ordering shoes from their website? I missed reading about that. That’s terrible business practice, what happened?
Here’s to a happy, healthy, and fit 2020!
Brooks said I bought and returned too many shoes. I wrote about it here: http://zenaida.net/2019/06/02/weekly-run-down-banned-from-brooksrunning-and-summer-break/
