Wow, how is it already October? I feel like September went by slow and fast at the same time. I was very busy with work which made the days go fast but it still felt like a long month. I know it is already October but I feel like I’ve been in school more than 7 weeks. On a positive note, I’m starting off the weekend with a little catch-up over the Ultimate Coffee Date hosted by Coco and Deborah. So grab a mug of your favorite beverage and let’s chat for a bit!
If we were having coffee…
I’d tell you that I cannot wait to spectate the Chicago Marathon on Sunday! It is definitely one of my favorite days!!
If we were having coffee…
I’d tell you that we have a new teacher contract. There were many great new things and perks added to it. There is a salary increase. However, an extra 30 minutes will be added to the school day beginning in August 2023. I am not really crazy about it but we knew that one day the state was going to require us to extend the day. Another great thing is that we can wear jeans and gym shoes as long as we wear them with spirit wear (school shirt).
If we were having coffee…
I’d tell you that I think I am a good driver. I rarely speed and always stop at the stop signs. One day I was driving to work and was waiting in the left lane for the light to change so I could turn left. The light changed and I began to turn. Then I saw a young boy/teenager about to cross the street. It was too late for me to stop and let him go. Then I looked up my mirror and saw that the car behind me had stopped to let him go. I then wondered if I should have stopped too but I realized that I had the signal to turn. Plus, the boy should learn how to cross the street! 😆
If we were having coffee…
I’d ask you if you have recommendations for comfortable shoes. I love wearing jeans and gym shoes. However, there are days when I want to look nicer. You know I love my Tieks. However, I am STILL dealing with plantar fasciitis (I don’t know why since I am rarely running) and my feet hurt when I wear them. Yesterday morning I ordered two pairs of Allbirds Women’s Tree Breezers (wasn’t sure about size) so we’ll see how those work out.
If we were having coffee…
I’d tell you that the later sunrise makes me sad. I am not liking how dark it is at 6am. I know I’ve said before that I enjoy running in the dark. I haven’t been running much anyway so there is nothing pleasant about the darkness. 🤣 🤣

The dark mornings make me very sad. I miss summer.
That’s awesome to be able to wear jeans and gym shoes to work. I’m still at home. Not looking forward to dressing up everyday.
I wear Crocs as my go to winter shoe. Good luck finding a comfortable shoe.
And have lots of fun this weekend.
I like that I have options to dress up or wear jeans with gym shoes. Spectating is fun but also exhausting!
Spectating the race this weekend should be lots fun! I wear Birkenstocks a lot and they make my feet happy. I am going to get a winter pair this week
Yes to Birkenstocks! I have a pair of sandals I wear in the Summer. I haven’t seen the Winter pair yet but will check them out.
I’m glad your new contract has benefits for you. After the pandemic they really lowered our dress code a work – we can wear jeans all the time.
I’m always on the hunt for comfortable shoes — let me know what you find!
Someone recommended Anne Klein so I ordered a few pairs from Zappos. The ones I picked have a square toe which I like.
Can you get away with running shoes? I wear my Hoka Cliftons ALL THE TIME (I have a pair for running and a pair for everything else.) I can’t say it’s cured my PF but I’m definitely more comfortable.
I’m glad you got a pay increase, but not glad that time has been added to your day. Is it time you can use any way you want? Like could you do some planning or something you would otherwise be doing at home? Maybe it wouldn’t be so bad then.
Yes, I can wear gym shoes everyday now. I have read about the Hoka Cliftons being great for those with plantar fasciitis. The extra 30 minutes will be at the end of the day and we were told it will not be for meetings but instead for student time. It will be great if I could use it to get stuff done so I don’t do it at home.
I agree, the dark mornings are a buzzkill. On my non-running days, I’ve been going for a quick walk (after my morning workout) so I can get a glimpse of the sunrise. Any little bit of sunshine helps to brighten my day 😉
I agree!
I’m an ok driver. Hard to tell what you should have done without seeing it — but I can tell you in general people are just insane on the road now!
Sorry about the longer day for school & darker mornings. Nobody likes the darker mornings!
Sometimes it is stressful driving out there!
Well, most of the time. And I don’t live in a big city!
We extended our school day too but it’s in the morning, so now we get to go home earlier which I like.
If you are looking for comfy dress shoes I would suggest the Anne Klein sport shoes. The sport shoes are dress shoes but have a rubber sole and are usually made of some sort of fabric that stretches ( rather than all leather). I have several styles and I love them!
Thanks for the recommendation! I ordered a few pairs and cannot wait to get them.
That’s definitely a plus for the salary increase/perks/getting to wear gym shoes/jeans! Boo on the extra 30 minutes though.
I really miss the long daylight hours as well, but we’re leaving fire season over here so at least there’s that(?).
At least it isn’t one hour! That would suck.
I’m glad you got some great perks in your new contract. I’m always on the lookout for comfortable shoes for work – I recently bought a pair of Rothy’s and like them. Have fun spectating Chicago!
I’ve heard of Rothy’s but am wondering if the pointy toes will hurt my feet.
I get what you mean about the kid in the crosswalk, but in Illinois, pedestrians always have the right of way in the crosswalk, even if they’re crossing against the light… and as a runner, I always give pedestrians the right of way, hoping they’ll return the favor!
Oh my! I just failed a driver’s test. I thought pedestrians had to wait for the green light before proceeding to cross the street.
I hope you had a great time cheering everyone on.
I don’t have any suggestions on comfortable shoes. I have a pair of Adidas Court shoes that I like but I struggle with anything else. I have heard great things about Tiek’s and Rothy’s but everyone’s feet are so different.
I ended up buying a few pairs of Anne Klein shoes. I’ve only tried them on and haven’t worn them yet to work.
