This week’s Tuesday Topic:  Would You Rather?  You can write about this topic or post any running-related blog post.  Remember to link up with Kim and Zenaida!  Visit at least two of the other linked posts – the more the merrier!  Remember to come back for later linkers!

I had so much fun writing this post last year so we are doing it again.  However, the questions here are not running-related.  They’re from a set I bought from TpT for my students.  My students had a great time when we did this on Friday.  Also, they’re in Spanish so I had to translate them.

Would you rather?

Have 20 mosquitos or 2 spiders follow you all day.  I don’t like either of them but I would prefer to have 2 instead of 20 things following me.

Run on the grass or on the sand.  On the sand.

Vacation on a beach full of people or on a deserted island.  A deserted island.  I would need my phone, a few books, and a TV.

Never watch TV or never eat sweets.  Never eat sweets.

Live in a zoo or in a museum for one month.  In a museum.

Play in the park or visit a museum.  Visit a museum.

Go to the zoo or a water park.  Water park.

Eat only cookies or ice cream all Summer.  Ice cream.  Chocolate with nuts and whipped cream, please.

Play a board game or watch a movie.  Watch a movie.

Have a crab or a sea horse as a pet.  A sea horse.

Play with bubbles outside or draw with chalk on the sidewalk.  Play with bubbles.

Live in a boat or a tree house all Summer.  A tree house.

Have sand in your hair or in your feet.  My feet.

Eat watermelon or corn all Summer.  Corn with all the toppings (mayonnaise, butter, lemon, cheese, and chile).

Have your body turn blue or your hair turn purple every time you get wet.  Purple hair.

Be a mermaid or shark all Summer.  A mermaid.

Eat a burnt hamburger or a burnt marshmallow.  Burnt marshmallow.

Jump on a trampoline or ride in a canoe.  Jump on a trampoline.

Play volleyball or play with water balloons.  Play with water balloons.

Find a snake or a skunk in the woods.  Oh boy!  I am terrified of both but would rather find a snake.

Next week is a FREE topic.  Feel free to write about any running-related topic.  We hope you’ll link up with us!

Tuesday Topics: Off Topic Tuesday with a few of my favorite things

This week’s Tuesday Topic: Off Topic Tuesday: Write about your all-time favorite movie, musical, pizza topping or what have you.  You can write about this topic or post any running-related blog post.  Remember to link up with Kim and me!  Visit at least two of the other linked posts – the more the merrier!  Remember to come back for later linkers!

Hello there!  It’s been an interesting week.  My sister was in town and it was busy with her and my mom staying with me.  It was a fun week!  I know my mom was happy she was here because she doesn’t get to see my sister that often (she lives in Mexico).

I fell behind in the blogging world but slowly am catching up.  I do not like it when I don’t read or respond to comments.  I do my best to read and respond to each one but I know sometimes a few slip through the cracks.

This is a fun topic!  I wrote a similar one last year so I won’t be repeating the items.

Here is a list of some of my favorite things:

Animal: Cat!  But you knew that already, right?

Childhood memory:  Being in a car after arriving from Mexico and seeing the Sears Tower.  I was 5 at that time.

Place to relax:  In my bed.  I either read or just lay there.

Thing to do before bed: Read a book.

Number: 5

Season:  Fall

Thing to do in the morning:  Drink coffee.

Favorite girl name: Sophia Isabella.  There was a time in which I wanted to adopt a little girl and that was the name I had chosen for her.  I never went through the process but it was something that I thought about doing.

Favorite thing to do on New Year’s Eve: Go to bed before midnight.

Soda: Coca-Cola.  I like it without ice.

Cartoon: Tom and Jerry.

Canceled TV series: Gilmore Girls.  I was so sad when it ended.

Car:  Anything from Honda.  I had a CRV for almost 15 years and it rarely gave me any trouble.  I have another CRV and am hoping it doesn’t give me any trouble either.

Fictional place I’d want to visit: Stars Hollow from Gilmore Girls.

Dr. Seuss book:  Green Eggs and Ham.

Tell a story, only with photos.  I don’t think I’ve ever done a wordless post before.  An interesting topic so let me tell you a story using just photos.  Can you guess the story?

The topic for next week: Off Topic Tuesday: Write about your all-time favorite movie, musical, pizza topping or what have you.  Feel free to write about this or any running-related topic.  We hope you’ll link up with us!

Tuesday Topics: April 2023 Review

This week’s Tuesday Topic is a FREE topic.  Feel free to post any running-related blog post.  Remember to link up with Kim and Zenaida!  Visit at least two of the other linked posts – the more the merrier!  Remember to come back for later linkers!

April is almost over which means May is almost here.  That means June is around the corner!  And you know what that means – the end of the school year!!!

Let me tell you about how April went for me:

Mileage:  So far it’s been the month with the highest mileage.  As of today, I’ve run 79.83 and walked 4.08 miles.  There are still a few more days this month so I am sure those numbers will increase.

Current Book:  I am reading “Damnation Spring”.  I am not sure how I feel about it.  It is a bit boring but I don’t want to stop reading it.  I still want to keep reading and finish it.

Current Shoes: Still running in the Brooks Ghost.  I’ve run close to 250 miles so soon I will retire them and then run in another pair.

2023 Running Goal:  My goal this year is to run 800 miles.  It is about 67 miles per month.  Total mileage to date is 225.52.  It is about 30 percent of my goal leaving me with about 575 miles to go.  As long as I stay healthy and injury free, I am confident I will reach my goal.

Injuries:  None.  The hip is better.  It isn’t 100% better but not as bad as before.  I still have plantar fasciitis but it isn’t as bad as before.

Races:  I ran one this month – CARA Lakefront 10 Miler.  It was a cold and windy day but I made the best of it.  I have another one on Sunday and I am sure it will be a fun one.  It is “only” a 5k.

School:  I am mentally exhausted and cannot wait to be done.  My last day is June 2nd.  Next month we have one institute day, a field trip to the zoo, and a pizza party.  I will be very happy when I am done.

Run Streak:  I wasn’t planning to do one but as of yesterday, I’ve been running for 30 days.  I focus on time instead of miles.  I run between 20-60 minutes on different days.  I feel like it is less pressure and at the same time, I enjoy my runs.  Whenever I feel tired, I get out for 15 or 20 minutes – short and sweet!

Health:  The hot flashes continue.  Other than that, I am feeling good.  I am trying to watch what I eat because of my high A1C.  In June I am getting blood work done again and hopefully, that number will be lower.  I cannot get diabetes!

April went well and I know May will be even better!

The topic for next week:  Mother’s Day gift guide (mom, sister, friend, etc).  Feel free to write about this or any running-related topic.  We hope you’ll link up with us!

Tuesday Topics: A Day in the Life of Ms. Arroyo

This week’s Tuesday Topic:  A Day in Your Life.  You can write about this topic or post any running-related blog post.  Remember to link up with Kim and Zenaida!  Visit at least two of the other linked posts – the more the merrier!  Remember to come back for later linkers!

I’ve done several Day in the Life of a Teacher post.  The first one was on November 6, 2016when things were “normal”.  The next one was on June 25, 2019.  I wrote it when I was teaching Summer School.  The next one was on May 11, 2021I wrote it during remote learning.  The last one was on May 17, 2022It was fun reading each one again and reflecting on how each one is very different.

Here is a typical day for me (I chose Wednesday):

5:00-5:30 AM
I get up and make my coffee.  I check my school email and then my personal email.  I send the Friday linkup code to my cohosts.  I read posts from the Tuesday linkup.  I also read comments and respond to them.  Then I get ready and head out for my run.  Depending on the distance, I am back by 6:30 or 7 am.

After my run, I shower, get ready, make my smoothie, and hit the road.

7:00-8:30 AM
I arrive at school during that time.  I no longer try to get there by 7 am.  There have been times when I arrived at 8 am and it was OK.  I live 6 miles from my school but the later I leave, the more traffic I encounter.  Still, I am not going to stress out if I get there late.

During this time I eat breakfast, check work email, make copies, talk to colleagues, go to the bathroom, and get ready for the day.

8:30-8:45 AM
The bell rings at 8:30 to let the kids into the school.  A few minutes later my students are lined up outside the classroom.  They come in and eat breakfast.  Those that do not eat, color, or do something else.  I take attendance and do lunch count.

welcome classroom

8:45-10:20 AM
My kids have Reading till 10:20 am.  We either read one of the books from the curriculum or go to the rug for a read-aloud.  I also meet with some students in a small group setting to work on Reading skills.  The others have various tasks to do.

10:20-11:00 AM
We have Writing.  It is the most difficult subject to teach.  Many of my students struggle with writing.

11:00-11:45 AM
The students line up for lunch.  Last week it was very warm and they had outside recess.  I eat lunch with my coworker in her classroom.  At 11:35 we go outside to meet the students and they stay an extra 10 minutes outside.  When it is cold or raining, they stay in the gym and watch a movie.  I still need to go down at 11:35.  My coworker and I let them run around and play for another 10 minutes before going back to the classroom.

We read and write in English.  I am actually impressed with them because English is not their first language.  They have been working very hard!  Sometimes we color or do something fun.

12:30-1:15 PM
My class is split up and they get ready for either Music or Gym.  The class that goes to Gym usually has Art but on Wednesday they have Gym.  Another 2nd-grade class is also split up and they also go to Gym or Music.  The Music teacher is in my room so I cannot stay there.  I either go next door to my coworker’s classroom or internal sub.

1:15-2:30 PM
Math.  My favorite subject.  Right now they’re working on line plots.  I find this topic boring.  I’d rather go over again adding and subtraction, place value, and word problems.  This is my second year teaching Math in English and it is so hard for my students and for me.  Everyone is struggling.  The reason I am teaching it in English is because of the dual language curriculum.  However, next year I will get to teach Math in Spanish.

2:30-2:45 PM
Recess time!  Our favorite time of the day.  😀   Sometimes we go outside 5 to 10 minutes earlier.  We take advantage of the warm days to get extra time outside.  Prior to going outside, the students get their papers from the mailbox and their backpacks and jacket.

2:45-2:50 PM
The bell rings and they line up.  The students cannot leave till 2:50 pm.

2:50-3:00 PM
The bell rings again and the students let me know who is there to pick them up.  Once everyone is picked up, I go back inside to get my things and head down to the gym.  We have a building meeting from 3:05-4:05.  We have a building meeting about 3 times each month.

After work, I either go straight home or stop at the store.  At home, I cuddle with my cats and rest for a bit.  I eat and check blog posts.  Sometimes I’ll watch a bit of TV or read a book before getting ready for bed.  It was a long day.

I like my schedule.  I like the “break” at 12:30.  If I don’t have a meeting or need to internal sub, then that is time for me to grade papers, make copies, plan for the next day, etc.  I also like the recess time at 2:30.  It means that my day is almost over and I can stop teaching.  I am not so crazy about lunchtime.  I feel like it is too early, but at the same time, it gives me a break in the day.

What about bathroom breaks?  I usually go in the morning, during lunch, or at 12:30.  If I need to go at another time, I ask my coworker to stay with my students.

Next week is a FREE topic.  Feel free to write about any running-related topic.  We hope you’ll link up with us!
