Weekly Workouts, March 4-10, 2013

Workouts this week:

Tuesday – 6 x 800 (90 sec RI)
Done.  I like these workouts A LOT.  I alternated with speeds of 7.0, 7.1, and 7.2 on the treadmill.  I was drenched by the time I was done.

Thursday – 2 mile easy, 3 miles @ short tempo, 1 mile easy
I did not run on Thursday.  I am part of our district’s negotiation team and we were working till about 10:30 pm so I went to sleep really late that night.  I had no energy to run on Thursday.

Saturday – 9 miles at HMP, 10 minutes walking

I did not run 9 miles but instead ran the miles from Thursday (6 miles).  I felt really good afterwards.  I alternated speeds of 6.5, 6.5, 6.7, and 6.8.  My goal is to eventually run all of them in 6.8.

Total miles ran this week is 11.8.  Yeah, low mileage last week.  I need to make sure that doesn’t happen again.

Little Rock Half Marathon

Done, state #14.  I was very happy with this race because of my finish time (2:22:11), the weather, and definitely the medal.

The expo was pretty decent.  I bought another flower and a shirt.  Oh, and I met Bart Yasso.

The start line was literally next to the hotel so I went down at 7:50 on Saturday morning.  I adjusted my headphones and waited till my Garmin got a signal before getting in the corral to start the race.  About 10 minutes later I was ready to go.  However, as soon as I crossed the start line I met up with some walkers.  Seriously?  Nothing against any walkers but they need to start after the runners or at least move over to the right side.  No?

This course had hills, hills, and more hills.   My friend, Melody, told me to run slowly up the hills and to take it easy on the way down.  I did that for most of them but there were a few that I could not make it to the top so instead I walked.

I wore a long sleeve shirt, long shorts, compression socks, and gloves.  The sun was shining but it was still cold.  The breeze make it even colder.   However, it was still comfortable running weather.

There was great crowd support.  Lots of people were out there and not just cheering for the runners but also providing goodies.  I saw oranges, candy, beer, water, and Gatorade.  I almost took the beer (around mile 10) but decided against it because I still had 3 miles to go and those are the most difficult for me.

I was running in my own zone that I missed Little Rock Central High School and the Governor’s Mansion?  What?!?!?

The last mile was brutal.  With half a mile to go I took a walking break.  I began running again and noticed some volunteers were giving out lipstick.  You bet I got one!

I did not PR but am really happy with my time.  Will I do this race again?  You bet.  I want the marathon medal.  It is almost as big as my face!

My next race is next Saturday in Washington, DC.  I will be wearing my “lucky” socks from Pro Compression.

Weekly Workouts, February 25-March 3, 2013

Workouts this week:

Tuesday
2 x 1200 (2 min RI)
2 x 800 (2 min RI)
Done on Monday.  Thanks to Elizabeth at Racing Stripes for clarifying it for me.  I thought it meant run for 1.50 miles, recover for 2 minutes, run 1 mile, recover for 2 minutes.  In reality it meant run 0.75 miles, recover for 2 minutes, run another 0.75 miles, recover for 2 minutes, then run 0.5 miles, recover for 2 minutes, run another 0.5 miles, and recover for 2 minutes. I liked these workouts! They were challenging but “fun” at the same time.

Thursday – 1 mile easy, 5 miles @ mid tempo, 1 mile easy
Done on Tuesday.

Saturday – Half Marathon
Did not run on Saturday but instead ran the Little Rock Half Marathon on Sunday. What a GREAT race!  So happy specially since I had a crappy race in St. Pete in February. I will write a recap soon. Here is a picture of the medal.  Pretty cool huh?

Total ran this week was 24.68.

Little Rock Marathon Expo

Hello, I am at the hotel resting before tomorrow’s race.  I arrived last night but it took forever to get to the hotel because of a cab situation, and then Jaime and I went to the lobby for a drink..or drinks.

This morning I met Jess at Run with Jess as she waited with her husband for the start of the 5K (her husband was running that race).  She is such a great person!  I already knew that because I read her blog a lot.  🙂

Afterwards I met up with Jaime to eat breakfast and then to go to the expo.  I was not disappointed with it.  There were a decent number of vendors but I told myself that I was not going to buy anything.  Well, I just bought another red flower by Fellow Flowers and one of their shirts.  So cute!

February 2013 in Review

This month I ran 66.18 miles compared to 90.01 last month.  Short month and I missed quite a few workouts.  ;-(  I ran one half marathon in February:  Rock ‘n’ Roll St. Petersburg Half Marathon.  I took it easy after the race because I think I was tired from too much running.  Is there such a thing?  In March I have two races:  Little Rock Half Marathon and Rock ‘n’ Roll USA Nation’s Capital Marathon and Half Marathon.  I am so excited about both of them.  Then in April I have two more races and a trip to Riviera Maya for Spring Break!!  Fun!These socks are awesome.  I love how they fit and how they make my legs feel during and after a long run.  And the colors?  Fantastic!!

Weekly Workouts, February 11-17, 2013

A few months ago I purchased the “Christmas socks”.  I finally got a chance to wear them today to celebrate Dr. Seuss’ birthday.  My socks were a hit with everyone in school!

During my long run on Tuesday, my shorts ripped in the left inner thigh area.  I felt discomfort (chafing) but did not realize the extent till I got home and showered.  Ouch and painful!  Well, that area still has not healed and it hurts every time I walk.  I better put a bandage or something or I will be in big trouble for Sunday’s race.

Today I am leaving for Little Rock, Arkansas to run in state #14.  The weather is supposed to be nice for a race.
