Now, grab a mug of your favorite beverage, and let’s chat briefly!

If we were having coffee…
I’d tell you about my first week of school.  Wow!  Tough, challenging, but I know we will have fun!  My kids will learn a lot too.  The AC broke on Thursday and we were all miserable.  Our school wasn’t the only one.  The whole situation was handled very poorly by the people above.  We all knew it was going to be HOT those days.  Administration should have let us do remote learning.  That is what ended up happening with another school.  I was really disappointed in them.

If we were having coffee…
I’d tell you that we have a new Reading curriculum and have already had to do assessments – in English and in Spanish.  Let me also tell you that we weren’t really trained in doing these assessments.  It was a very short PD with minimal hands on exposure.  Don’t you love it when training is like that?  But thanks to a Reading Interventionist helping me, I am almost done with the assessments.

If we were having coffee…
I’d tell you that as I was doing these assessments, I was very disappointed with how my students were doing.  Almost all CANNOT read.  Wow, I am still shocked!  I kept looking at the reading interventionist to tell her how they were doing.  I know last year some of my kids were low but I had some really good readers.  This year maybe 1 or 2 are readers.  It will be an interesting year.

If we were having coffee…
I’d tell you that I have a tough group this year.  Besides many being non readers, I have a couple with behavior issues.  And many just talk so much.  I know they’re kids, I get it.  But I tell them that there is a time to talk and there is a time to be quiet.  We are still working on the latter.  I may just have to bribe them.  I mean, reward them for good behavior.  I am off today and I think I will miss a little bit those kids.

If we were having coffee…
I’d tell you that I need to keep reminding myself to not do so much for work and to take care of myself.  I’ve stayed late almost every day since school started.  I’ve also gone in early too.  Work will never be done.  I don’t have “official” lesson plans but know what I need to do.  I don’t have emergency lesson plans done.  My classroom library isn’t set up.  I’ve mentioned the new reading curriculum and some changes were made to the dual language program.  Did I mention that our school day is now 30 minutes longer?  And the countdown begins till Winter Break!

Tuesday Topics: August 2023 Review

This week’s Tuesday Topic is a FREE topic.  Feel free to post any running-related blog post.  Remember to link up with Kim and Zenaida!  Visit at least two of the other linked posts – the more the merrier!  Remember to come back for later linkers!

Back to school always wears me out.  I have spent HOURS setting up my room and figuring out what I need to do.  There was minimal running, but I did a lot of walking.

Let me tell you about how August went for me:

Mileage:  As of yesterday, I’ve run 15.30 and walked 47.74 miles this month.  It is my lowest month of running miles (in February I ran 19.76 miles) but my highest in walking miles.  I still stay that’s a win!

Current Book:  I finished reading “The Guide” and am halfway done.  I am not too crazy about it and stubbornly I don’t want to stop reading it.  I know it doesn’t make sense.

Current Shoes: Still running in my pretty blue Launch shoes.  Well, I should say walking.

2023 Running Goal:  At this point, I seriously doubt I will make my goal.  I am 51% done.  I need 388 miles and there are 124 days left this year.  I need to get back to running mode and hopefully, I can do it once I get settled in school.  But, any advice as to how to get back to running?  I feel like I need to start over again.  My last run was on August 7.

Injuries:  None.  My feet don’t hurt as much since I haven’t been running.  They did hurt the first two days of school when I was walking back and forth in my work shoes.  From now on I am sticking to gym shoes.

Races:  None.

School:  Last week was my first week.  It was chaotic, interesting, and stressful.  I will write more about it in Friday’s post.

Health:  I am still not sleeping well.  I nap when I get a chance.  I am going to the doctor on September 8 for a physical and will ask for blood work to be done to check my A1c, glucose, iron, cholesterol, etc.

I think I have mentioned this before but my last period was in January.  I thought I was done with periods.  Guess what showed up two weeks ago?  Yep!  ¡Ay caramba!

Not a very exciting month but I am trying to make it through each day.  I am sure once I am settled in with school, I will start running again and I can write about more exciting stuff.  😀

Tuesday Topics: My favorite running items I’ve tried this year

This week’s Tuesday Topic:  Share your favorite running item(s) you’ve tried this year You can write about this topic or post any running-related blog post.  Remember to link up with Kim and Zenaida!  Visit at least two of the other linked posts – the more the merrier!  Remember to come back for later linkers!

Hello there!  Today is my first day with my students.  As of yesterday, I have 21 on my roster.  It is a good number and I know I will get more throughout the year.  I had one day of training and one full of meetings.  I am ready.  We’ll see how it goes.

I didn’t buy or use many new products this year.  I am pretty consistent with what I use.  I don’t know if that is a good or bad thing.

These are the two new things I used this year.

🏃🏾‍♀️ Garmin Forerunner 265.  I had the opportunity to test this watch prior to it being available to the public.  I wore it daily for a few minutes and provided my input.  In exchange, I received this as a gift from Garmin.  I love the color.  There are many great features but one of my favorites is that it has the option to track my walks.  I can also set it up to listen to music instead of using my phone.

🏃🏾‍♀️ Brooks Ghost Lite No Show Socks.  I bought these on sale and use them every day (not just for running).  They’re lightweight, soft, and just right cushioned (I don’t like my socks too cushioned).

Next week is a FREE topic.  Feel free to write about any running-related topic.  We hope you’ll link up with us!

Last week I posted some Instagram stories/memories and this week it is Facebook.

I was this close to going to Hawaii for vacation.  It was that Summer I was hired as a teacher and my new teacher orientation was during that time, so I had to cancel my trip.

I remember going and having so much fun!  Unfortunately, I haven’t seen many of my classmates since then.

Summer months are usually when I run the most.

My last trip to Alaska!

Remote learning!  What an “awful year!

It was remote learning for the whole year.  I did have about 3 students come into the classroom the last quarter while the rest stayed at home.

Remember that whole chaos when Garmin stopped working?

This year I worked again with kindergarten students.  It was a lot of work but so much fun!

Mateo is never happy to take pictures with me.

Fit Five Friday and August 2023 Ultimate Coffee Date

Welcome to the August edition of the Ultimate Coffee Date hosted by Coco and Deborah.  It’s also time for another edition of Fit Five Friday hosted by My First 5K and More, Running with AttitudeRun Laugh Eat PieRuns with Pugs, and me!

Now, grab a mug of your favorite beverage, and let’s chat briefly!

If we were having coffee…
I’d tell you that I am excited to see Desi at the Chicago Marathon.  I won’t be running but will be at my usual spot spectating.  It is much more fun than running!

If we were having coffee…
I’d tell you that we are two weeks out from our first day of school and no word on when we can go into our classroom to start setting it up.  That is stressing me out because it takes me DAYS to set it up.  We have two days of Institute (8/18 and 8/21) with our first day with our students on the 22nd.  I have a few meetings in the next two weeks and I am doing a couple of things at home for my students – time is precious!!

If we were having coffee…
I’d tell you that a friend of mine invited me for the weekend on a trip to Mexico City.  She is going with her daughter and sister-in-law.  I was interested and bought a ticket.  It is for 4 days but it is still enough for a nice getaway.  The other day I had lunch with my cousin and she also invited me to go to Mexico (Aguascalientes) for her daughter’s wedding.  That is tempting too!  Now I am torn on which trip to take.

If we were having coffee…
I’d tell you that I had Southwest credits and got a ticket to go to NY in November.  I will be there to visit my nephews and spectate the NYC Marathon.  I am looking forward to this trip for many reasons.  The only thing I don’t like is that I have parent/teacher conferences on November 6th so I would need to be on the first flight back on Monday morning.  That is what I did in March.  I guess I can come back Sunday night.

If we were having coffee…
I’d tell you that after looking at different venues for my mom’s birthday party next month, I secured a place for it.  It will be lunch at Paisan’s Pizzeria.  I already sent invites to family members and a few have already confirmed.  My sister and I will be picking out the menu.  Luckily there are several options to pick from since we don’t want pizza.  I will get some decorations and confirm the guests’ attendance closer to the date of the party.
