Weekly Run Down: More rain and a slow week

Happy Mother's Day

I hope everyone is having a GREAT Mother’s Day!  I feel like everyday should be Mother’s Day.  You are are AMAZING and BEAUTIFUL!!

This week was just one of those weeks!  I was EXHAUSTED.  I spent the beginning of the week with my sister and mother and each day came home late and ready for bed (they live about 30-40 minutes away).  I didn’t run on Wednesday (5 miles) and almost skipped my run on Thursday.

So much rain in the Chicago area.  That really dampens the mood.  It was gorgeous on Monday and then rain and more rain on Tuesday and Wednesday.  There was a little rain yesterday afternoon, but thankfully none today.

On Wednesday the students made some Mother’s Day gifts.  So cute!  They also made a certificate and wrote a letter for mom.  I was a bit sad for one of my students because her mom died the last week of March.  I did talk to her (and dad) before to let her know what we were going to do and gave her the option of participating or going to another classroom.  She decided to do the activities with the rest of us.  I also asked again each time we did something new to make sure she was still OK with it.

For Teacher Appreciation Week the students made cards for me.  Love each single one!  I love that some of them talk about Lola.  🙂

Teacher Appreciation Week-1.jpg

This week consisted of 3 runs.  I ran 4 miles on Thursday (in another new to me place), 6.78 on Saturday, and 3 on Sunday.   Also, I ran at Lake Katherine, really close to where my mom and sister live.  Very pretty!

On Saturday I went back to The Morton Arboretum to do 1×8 minutes, 1×4 minutes, and 4×2 minutes with 2 miles warmup and cooldown, and 2 minutes recovery between each interval.  I really wanted to do this close to home because it is flat but want to get into the habit of running every Saturday at the Arboretum.  The workout alone is tough but add in the hills and it is even more tough.  I survived.  🙂  I will admit that I did have to stop a few times during the first interval because I received a few texts that I had to check and respond.  Overall, pleased with how I did.

Nice week of training in spite of the craptastic weather we’re having. The forecast is for warmer temps later this week, but I’ll believe it when it happens!

    Happy Teacher Appreciation Day!

Thanks. I think I saw 70s in the forecast? But also I will believe it when it happens. Hope you are having a great day today!!!

A very Happy Teacher Appreciation Celebration to YOU!!! I love children’s artwork. Years ago, I organized an all-elementary art show (for several years), and it was always so fun seeing all the awesome ((colorful!)) creations. Thanks so much for linking with us 😉

Thank you! Kids are very creative and I love how they draw. I enjoy all of the pictures they draw for me.

I’m so happy that you got so many cards for Teacher Appreciation Week! It must be an awesome feeling to know that your students love you much! 🙂

Thank you! Yes, they do love me. They always tell me I am their favorite teacher. 🙂

Awww… I love the Mothers’ Day flowers you did with your students. My heart breaks for the little girl whose mom died in March. It must be tough to guide her through this season. Happy Teachers’ Appreciation Week! You deserve all the appreciation you get.

    1. Zenaida Arroyo Avatar

Thanks! It is tough but I know it is much more tough for her.

How wonderful of you to take in your student’s concerns. You’re amazing

YAY for teacher appreciation day! You guys are the best and deserve something EVERY day! I absolutely loved the cards my sons made for me at school this year and I try to be grateful for everything their teachers do – it’s really amazing. Speaking of – those intervals look great – wow! And what a gorgeous place to get them done. Nice work!

Thank you! Mothers are also pretty awesome too! Every single day when I go home I think to myself how the heck mothers do it that work and still have to get home and take care of their kids. I just want to get home and cuddle with my cat. 🙂

Sometimes I do have some great workouts and need to remember them whenever I have a crappy run. I have 8 miles on Saturday so we’ll see how that goes.

I love the Mother’s Day crafts. It’s great that you were sensitive to that poor girl, and it’s good she wanted to participate. Those new running routes look lovely.

    1. Zenaida Arroyo Avatar

My students are very creative and I love how much work and love they put into their gifts. I am glad she also participated. I simply have no idea what she is going through right now.

Awww I love that they made you cards for Teacher Appreciation week. So fun! I agree with you this cold, rainy weather is really wearing on me too. I feel like we’re being ripped off because May should be one of our nice weather months. Ugh. Let’s see if it warms up this week like they say it will. The Arboretum looks pretty!

    1. Zenaida Arroyo Avatar

Have you been to The Arboretum? You should check it out one day. Every year the students make me cards for Teacher Appreciation Week. Actually, they make cards for me all of the time. 🙂

Oh, I am so sorry for your student. I can’t even imagine how tough that must be for her to lose her mom at such a young age.

New routes are always so nice (even if they’re tough). And you still got in more running than me! Way more. 🙂

    1. Zenaida Arroyo Avatar

I agree. A 2nd grader should have more time with his/her mom. Too young to lose a parent. I am loving the new running places. They make me excited to get out there and run.

Good job on those intervals! School-made gifts from my kids are the best. Know that they are always truly treasured! That is sad about the girl’s mother. What a tough situation. Sounds like you handled quite well.

    1. Zenaida Arroyo Avatar

Thank you! Runs like those are definitely a confidence booster. My sister still has some things that my nephew made when he was a kid. Always brings a smile to my face so I am hoping the parents also treasure the things their child made for them.

Happy TA week. I remember those days fondly.

We’ve had rainy weather here too like yesterday, today, tomorrow…so ready for sunshine. Not complaining because I had a lot of that when I was on vacation.

    1. Zenaida Arroyo Avatar

Thanks. It was a good week. 🙂 Nice to be appreciated.

I hope you brought some of that sunshine from Florida and soon it will be nice and sunny.

It doesn’t seem that way. It has rained 3 out of 4 days since I’ve been home.

        1. Zenaida Arroyo Avatar

          Bummer.

Hope you had a great TA week! Love those special cards all your students made, and thank you for all you do for your students. Teachers are truly a special breed.

If there is rain, I am absolutely not interested. I’ll do it if I have to, but I’m like a wet cat the whole time.

    1. Zenaida Arroyo Avatar

Thanks! There are days that I do question what I do (is it enough? should I do more?) but at the end of the day I tell myself that I did what I could and tomorrow is another day.

Happy Teachers’ Appreciation Week! It sounds like you have some great students.

The rain can really wreck havoc on the runs, can’t it? At least you got in a longer on on the weekend! Hopefully sunshine is on the way in 🙂

    1. Zenaida Arroyo Avatar

Thanks. We are supposed to get warmer weather this week. Hopefully that is true.

Glad you had a good TA week! It’s been raining every afternoon here as well. I agree…rain makes me want to sleep!

I love it when you post pictures of your students’ art work and crafts; and how sweet that Lola got some shoutouts from them. 🙂

I hope you’re less tired this week!

    1. Zenaida Arroyo Avatar

Thanks. I love my students’ artwork. And I love that they enjoy and have fun with it. Lola is mentioned by all of my students. I make sure to mention her during Open House to parents in case their child comes home and starts talking about Lola too. 🙂

I am counting down the days till school is over. I will be teaching summer school beginning June 10th but it will not be as stressful as the regular school year.

Thank you for your comment!
